Not that I use Instagram all that much, but I have to say I wouldnt be too pleased to find a picture of my kid used as advertisement without my knowledge or consent.
I dont get the complaints. Everyone is using this FREE service to share their pictures with people all over the world, but are so outraged if the pictures get used elsewhere without consent???

Because they make a profit using your property? Don't you see how theres something wrong with that?
yea, this. doesn't matter if it's a free service. and it's the personal information sharing that's the big one. that's BS. just telling someone to not use it is a lame excuse. what's the point of having anything fun if you can't use it. facebook is evil. pretty soon you won't be able to do anything internet related because everything will be linked to your fb account. no fb, no internet. no anonymity anymore. you can't post on some newspaper articles, forums, and tons of other stuff i see online without a fb account. and i think that sucks, considering lot's of people don't want fb.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3
Google some picture of someone, give it the same name as someone even slightly famous (so it shows up after 90 pages of google), give it some nonsense hobbies. Birthday of someone else famous.
When I was in Uni, we made a massive fake account for all of us to use for **** like that, mainly Spotify. So much so that we made other fake accounts to post on its wall. Boredom.
Is it your property? Honestly, asking a question. At what point do you cross into the realm of using a free app, create property? Is your farmville farm, your property?
i agree it's shady to use our pictures for profit, BUT the app resizes the pictures to 100x100pixels, so who ever is using the pictures can't really advertise nicely with a thumbnail.......unless there advertising to midgets with small computers.

I have no issues with what they are doing, although I refuse to use Instagram. Its not free, nothing is free, the cost of this will now going forward be the ability to make use of your posted pictures for their benefit, don't like the cost find something else that you do like the cost of.
