    Re: lexus isf

I haven't driven the IS-F or even been in one outside the auto show but in all the tests and reviews they say the same things.

They say the IS-F competes on paper but not in real life. Fit and finish is about even, build quality will be very good, looks are just fine.

But an M3 outperforms it in *every* driving test - even though the Lexus has a BIG advantage in on-paper specs.

Plus, I dunno if the transmission in the IS-F really is up to par with the dual clutch you would see in something like an Audi or Porsche. I would doubt it, its probably more like a newer Tiptronic auto.

The Lexus is probably cushier and quieter than the competition. But I bet suspension and steering won't be so hot.

The "sportiness" of the Lexus is kind of only 80% the way there... an ordinary Lexus sedan got a bit sportier.

      Looks good to me.

Also I really don't like fifth gear, but this will do..

I have driven a few IS-F's when I worked at Lexus and Kor pretty much sums it up. Its biggest problem is that the car its based on, the IS is not a very good car. Fit and finish is poor, interior design is really bad with switches everywhere, and really small rear seat area. The transmission does not even compare to a modern DSG. The only really good thing is the sound of the V8 is quite good. A BMW or Audi is miles ahead.

My buddy picked up an '11 and it is plenty quick and does sound pretty good with lots of deep induction noise. The comments regarding the fit and finish are true, it's not an Audi. But the '11s and later handle pretty well and lots better apparently than the earlier cars. I'm not sold on the outside either but I've always been lukeWarm on the base car too. The auto tranny seemed pretty damn quick but with 8 speeds it had better be cause there's a whole lot of shifting.

The thing I like is the engine. I don't mind the look. All reviews I've read have the m3 way ahead on the track and such. I like looking to see if I can find a car that most people wouldn't have but is still a solid car that can be used for the family as well.

I find the seats in the isf to be amazing, not under sized. Thats jut me though, I felt they were the right size for my frame.

How about C63 since you are looking at those cars?

I'm not a fan of the c63. I won't be buying for a little while yet. My mind changes weekly on which direction to go, ill look seriously in the spring.
