    They've been doing this for years, pisses me off. US and Canadian governments should have a list of VINs that are freely available to the public, of all vehicles that are damaged in this way.

      The problem is, some of these vehicles are never claimed, these guys go in and buy cars before people claim them = clean title and person gets money without making a claim.

        if you're too stupid to do your own due diligence on a car and get it inspected then you kind of deserve what happens.

              Probably not hard to whip up a convincing proof of inspection if you are a douche bag used dealer....

                  Article says carproof has a free service for it.

                  That and check the engine department.

                    True, but the problem isn't the engine so much as the ventilation system, once water gets in there you have to rip it all out and replace it to get the mold out of it, and that means an almost total dis-assembly of the car.
