They're surprisingly good off road, but REALLY BIG in parking lots; you'd do well to get comfortable with the sonar parking feature

And the windshields cost a grand or more...

From what I've heard, the visibility out the back and sides is terrible

          Re: FJ Cruiser

They have the worst visibilty I've ever seen. Terrible blindspots.
Suprisingly good off road, reliable but do kill ball joints pretty regularly (tacoma balljoints are a direct replacement, regardless if the parts guy says they don't)
Fuel economy is okay, nothing special not terrible not great all things considered.
Overall its better then alot of things, but nothing overly special.
Had one with a 6" lift, 35" tires, painted the roof, grill, bumpers all black, and had some wheels on it. Drove nice, but was rather boring on the whole.
Sold it to my boss, who drove it for a few years before moving on because "Its just not fun anymore"
I have nothing bad to say about it, but nothing good either. Its just a rather boring suv that has a destinctive look and 3 wipers.

            Re: FJ Cruiser

I have owned one since may 2006 (wifes car). Its a 2007, 6 speed manual and currently has just shy of 100,000 km's on it. Other than scheduled maintenance, absolutely nothing has broken (knock on wood). It still has over 50% left on the original brakes!! The truck is completely sqeek and rattle free and has been a pleasure to own. Sure it has blind spots but thats what mirrors are for. I certainly wouldn't call the truck gutless either as its pulls pretty good for what it is.

I guess the only few downfalls are the interior is pretty plasticy and basic and the car is tough on fuel. Ours is a manual so its full time 4WD where as the autos are a bit better on fuel as they are switchable between 2 and 4WD!

                  Re: FJ Cruiser

It is not really a SUV but more of a truck, it rides like a truck, reacts like a truck while driving, turning, braking, accelerating, ect. It is good -very good at doing what it was designed to do
but not really a family suv if that is what you are looking for. Not really a very luxuries interior , the front door needs to be opened to open the rear access doors to get into the back seat area, higher lift to load the rear compartment area, but as I said I would not consider this a SUV but a truck as it is a FJ following its heritage from the early FJ 's. It is reliable as all other Toyota's, take one for a test drive and you will know if it is for you as I think the FJ is a love it or hate type of vehicle. Good luck

The wife and I took a 4 runner for a test drive @ a month ago .. Really liked it and the visibility was really good for my wife to see out of. She liked it for the size of it.. We like it cause with 2 kids it'll be good size and it's not a van! The 4.0 was decent for power . I've rode in an fj a couple times and there're nice, never rode in it longer then like 20 mins tho.

                    My 2 cents

Thanks for the input guys really helpful and appreciated. We'll take one out for a drive and see what comes of it. I really liked the jeep too but the significant other is not too fond of its military like exterior.
