yes, and I forgot about the TT haha. Since Passats are based on A4 Platforms (or vise versa...whatever) they are Torsen too right?

          Passat is Torsen, correct.

But the question is what should he buy? I think the majority of people are voting R32.

Re: Saying goodbye to the 2.0

If you didn't know, the 3.2 TT is only available in DSG.

I was in a similar position and I got a 225 TT. It boiled down to a few main points for me. A well configured one can make 300wHP on the stock turbo, which is much more than a 3.2 (R or TT) with full bolt-ons (cams, headers/exhaust, intake mani, etc.). It's also 200lbs lighter, most of it hanging right off the front, which makes for a significant handling difference between the two. Aesthetics is a toss up - I think both are beautiful, but give the nod to the TT. The R sounds heavenly, and no matter how many revisions of exhaust I go through, the 1.8T (2.0T, really) is always a good step below the 3.2.

In the end, mod-ability, lower weight, and the uniqueness of the TT won me over. And FWIW, I can fit a $500 Costco load in the TT, with my wife and daughter in the car (I'm good at Tetris!). I also haul around more stuff that most people with (non-work) trucks - if you take the passenger seat out of the TT, you can fit 8' lumber in it

Re: Saying goodbye to the 2.0

I can't believe more people haven't said the TT. If you want something to mod and take to shows why wouldn't you want something more original than one of the 26 R32's or 34 B5 S4's? Maybe I'm biased because I've always liked TT's but they aren't very common and look FANTASTIC with just some wheels and some lowering. I love Mk4 R32's but they go for a big premium and are harder to find. I'm NOT a fan of the 1.8T but I still think the TT is a good choice.

When I was in the same boat as you I ended up with a Corrado, which is a similar type of car and I don't regret it at all. Hell, now days if I was in the same boat I would probably be considering older Boxters (can be found for 15-20,000 easy). Fun to drive, cheap to run and again, none in the club or at the shows.

Good points Jason, I also think the TT is under appreciated my Dad had both a 225 1.8T and a 3.2 DSG Mk1 TT back in the days and I loved them both!

I would've bought a TTRS if I didn't have a criteria of my hockey bag being able to fit in the car.

It's a sweet car and you can't beat the 5-cylinder noise.

The shape is quite unique and with proper mods, can help you stand out even more!

Just bought a B6 A4 Avant 1.8TQ 5-spd a couple weeks ago and love it. Great daily, good on fuel, decently quick and fairly reliable. I love how practical they are with tons of trunk space and enough room to haul 5 people if I have to. They're also priced quite well so if you buy one, you'll most likely have some leftover cash for mods and other stuff.
