Saying goodbye to the 2.0

So the plan is to hopefully grab a new car in the spring and say goodbye to the beloved 2.0. The idea was to pick up a mk4 .:R, but have also been thinking about getting something else like a mk1 TT or a early (06/07) A3 quattro or even a wagon of some sort. I would like to have AWD, and something with quite a bit more power than the 2.0 (shouldnt be hard :P).

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on either the mk1 TT or the A3 or a B5 S4 avant . as of now i plan to make my next car last for as long as possible before moving on to another, and mod it extensively (hopefully). i have already gained a ton of info on the R32's from friends who have owned them and spending endless hours on vortex/other sites.

The reason im posting this is because i definitely do not want to make a mistake and be unhappy in what i purchase. my current golf was my first car and i did absolutley no research on what car i wanted, the 2.0 was actually the only car i looked at when i was looking. i have been very happy with my current golf, and unhappy in some other places, but i want to make sure i love my next car.

any help is greatly apreciated!

A3 you will not find in Stick shift and Quattro. B5S4 will be hard to find in an Avant, and I heard you wanna have deep pockets for those. However deep pockets aside, I love B5S4's. I would just go with a sedan.

I vote R. Cost of ownership of a B5 S4 is pretty expensive as far as I know, TT is a 2 seater, and the A3 doesn't come with Quattro and stick. The R just makes a lot more sense IMO

Nothing wrong with that. Its your car, not a taxi. At my summer ride height, my back seats are useless. Perfect excuse not to have to drive people around

B5 S4 isnt that much to operate at all. Its a car with a few quirks, mostly thanks to the shitty bosch components that VAG loves to use. So if you buy an S4 and your expecting some of the stuff thats known to be issues then its manageable. Although there are less avant S4s in the world, then R32s, so they can be tricky to find sometimes.
TT is cool, but its a 1.8t.
I'd vote R32 for the sound, S4 because of POWER!!!

Yeah, but I consider the back seats as storage space. I never really use the back seats for people haha. I dunno, something about 2 seaters just doesn't seem practical to me

TT is cool, but its a 1.8t.

if i was to get a tt, i would probably get the 3.2l Quattro., and i wouldnt mind having just a 2 seater. come to think of it, if i got an .:r i would consider a rear seat delete for a fancy trunk set up or something. even with my 4 door, i rarely use my back seat. usually for my hockey equipment cus my sub is in my trunk.

Would your hockey stuff even fit in a TT? My old Volvo had a huge trunk with a small sub in it and my gf at the time couldn't get her hockey bag in it... It had to go in the back seat, and even then it would barely fit. That's why wouldn't want a 2 seater as my only car. Liftbacks are really limited when it comes to storage space. An R with a rear seat delete would be fine though... at least that way you still have a lot of storage space.

In this case its a whole different story and I fully understand your logic. I still vote Either R32 or B5S4 Sedan

Gah, stupid autocorrect. Anyhow, I guess I shouldn't say I don't like 2 seaters... It's more of the liftback style of the TT that I don't like since it leaves you with little trunk space.

The hardtop in dark green is the only way to go if your looking at the TT.
I'd trade my B5 S4 for a B6 S4 though, I want that V8.

I'd stay away from the TT. It is a 2 seater and that is pretty useless if you are going to daily it, and keep it for some time.

R32 or S4 would seem to fit your needs nicely.
