For me, I have to use 94 octane because it's tuned to take it. Aiya, Husky. I like having no choice but I actually get better mileage in 94 haha. 55L; 500km. Can't complain.

When I've used 94 on 23 occasions I've had an average gas mileage of 13.65 L/100km and the other 95 with Shell 91 with an average of 12.26 L/100km. These include highway and city. That is my "scientific" proof.
I watched the marketplace last night that showed the testing between the two fuel types. Frankly I feel the show misrepresented the results. They said that it does not provide better fuel economy even though the 91 octane fuel gave over 4% better milage in the test. They completely discounted fuel savings, yet stated that it was harsher on the environment than regular, but the smog test produced only a minor change, 6ppm with 87 octane vs 7ppm with 91 octane, this was enough to report it was more damaging to the environment? 1ppm of unburned hydro carbon is nothing.
Also on the show they load tested the car, showing 6hp needed to run the car at 75mph on a dyno with 87 octane, and 6hp with 91 octane. The show gave the impression that less power should be required with 91 octane. How does the fuel used on your car change the power required to move a rotating mass? You could run it on vodka and it would still need 6hp.
Bottom line, run the recommended fuel and not lower. Getting better fuel economy is 100% possible, but mostly because good 91 octane has no ethanol in it like most 87, 89 and 94 around the city.
This show got under my skin last night because I hate americanized reporting, marketplace used to be great show, but lately all it is good for is misrepresenting the story.Last edited by Remedys; 11-03-2012, 06:03 PM.Current: Golf R and a corporate lease nobody cares about
