  • expired license

my license expires on my birthday this year. Due to the class of license I hold I'm required to complete a drivers medical, however I can't get in to my doctors office until about 2 weeks after the expiration date. last resort is I visit a walk-in clinic wait 5 hours and pay the fee of $150. I'd prefer not to do that because my doctor can do it for free.

just wondering if anyone has been in this situation before. I'm concerned what would happen if I were to be pulled over or to get in an accident.

i think your insurance says that the driver must hold a valid license, so your insurance would be void, worst case.

Contact Deerfoot Meadows Medical Clinic, ask them how much they charge for a drivers medical, longest I have EVER waited there as a walk in is 10 minutes.

$150 for drivers medical seems on the high side, clinics I rotated through usually charged ~$80-100.

If you got into an accident i think it would be bad news....My cousin got caught without insurance and license and it was quite a hefty fine. Are you able to get around for those two weeks without your license? Might be more convenient to actually just sit and wait to get your medical and pay the money rather than run the risk

Why didn't you get the medical done in advance? I would agree with others, your insurance would be void, and I personally can't stand people who operate motor vehicles without insurance.

ask the registry. maybe if you have proof of your appointment and can show they might be able to work that out. if you just got pulled over, cops would fine you for expired license.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

I'm trying to get the medical done in advance, my license is still valid. I never have nor will drive without valid insurance. I wasn't sure of all the Consequenses associated with an expired license hence why I was asking for advice.

Called my insurance company they will cover me from the doctors appointment to a registry. Talked to CPS they said 99% of the time they wouldn't ticket in the situation. Called the registry they can't do much, but did inform me that quite often people come in and renew months after their license has expired simply because they weren't aware it had expired. I only recived the paperwork from the registry on Friday

                    Re: expired license

99% isn't 100%, and its verbal not written, and frankly its again the law.

As was pointed out driving without a valid license is a) illegal, and b) voids your insurance. Both of which carry HUGE fines into the 4 figures.
As well ignorance of the law (people forgetting to renew their license) is not a valid reason when you get caught.

The headaches all of this will cause if you get caught is going to make that $80 or $150 look like a friggin joke. I would just do it by the book and not risk it.
