  • Re: plasti dipping colors

Good to know, thanks Pat... Was just checking out their website/forums and noticed the Blaze colour lineup. These seem to be brighter and more vibrant than their normal color lineup. Any experience with these Pat?

No direct experience with the blaze lineups, however I will mention this. The blue on my wheels was not blaze, it was the original blue. After doing lots of research, I realized that the blaze blue is actually darker than the regular blue after sufficient coverage. So with that being said, just be careful when purchasing because blaze does not necessarily mean it will be a very vibrant color compared to the originals.

ya car is staying white........for this season. I would have kept the wheels blue, but the one was really peeling so I just decided to switch it up

if you could get the plastidip to be the proper colours and also in a gloss finish i would say do it, but other than that i dont think it would look good in the matte finish the white is in currently. just my 2 cents.

Definitely NOT doing Harlequin next season.

Brent, the blue was a b!tch to peel so I decided to lay on the red much thicker. I used 5 cans of red and 2 can of gold metalizer. Nice and thick coats!

Liked the blue better, the red seems to kinda clash with your taillights. How long did it take to peel all the plastic off? And how often is it worth changing the color now that you have done it?

the colors arent really worth changing, only reason I did is cause one of my wheels started peeling badly. I guess thats what happens when you have to rush the job. Took my time with this one so I dont think it will be peeling anytime soon. Blue was kind of a PITA to peel too because I guess I didnt spray it on thick enough. again, a problem that shouldnt be encountered again after this spray.

But in all honesty, the color changing all depends how bored you are and how much cash you have burning a hole in your pocket. It can be done for about 75 bucks i'd say

MOVED FROM OTHER THREAD TO APPEASE PEOPLE

Plastidip is not a trend, it will be a FAD. AKA a crazy that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period.

I will not be shy to admit that i'm not a fan of plastidip at all. I think that it is tacky and something you would do to cover up paint or do temporarily to try out a paint idea before actually getting your car painted.

That being said I commend Pat and Tracy to be the first ones on the forum here to be bold and try something different. As much as i don't like the outcome and reasons that it was done they are not mine to agree/disagree on.

My gut feeling is that it will be used by a few people as a winter paint protector and by next spring there will be many people (lets say 10-15) who have done parts or all of their car and at that time it is not going to be unique like it was this year. It will NOT cause people to win competitions, it will eventually be looked upon as a cheap alternative for people who don't have the cash to pony up for new paint. It will become the next "cheap coilover" craze as seen on vortex with everybody wanting to be low but not pay the money for them. Plastidip will become the cheap and tacky thing that all new people do as their first mod and then everybody who currently has plastidip will be done with the fad and will move on to bigger and better things.

Me, i'm definitely not getting involved in this fad.

Good luck to all the people getting involved in the fad early, you might be able to catch it before it turns into the new norm
