Plastidip is not a trend, it will be a FAD. AKA a crazy that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period.

I will not be shy to admit that i'm not a fan of plastidip at all. I think that it is tacky and something you would do to cover up paint or do temporarily to try out a paint idea before actually getting your car painted.

That being said I commend Pat and Tracy to be the first ones on the forum here to be bold and try something different. As much as i don't like the outcome and reasons that it was done they are not mine to agree/disagree on.

My gut feeling is that it will be used by a few people as a winter paint protector and by next spring there will be many people (lets say 10-15) who have done parts or all of their car and at that time it is not going to be unique like it was this year. It will NOT cause people to win competitions, it will eventually be looked upon as a cheap alternative for people who don't have the cash to pony up for new paint. It will become the next "cheap coilover" craze as seen on vortex with everybody wanting to be low but not pay the money for them. Plastidip will become the cheap and tacky thing that all new people do as their first mod and then everybody who currently has plastidip will be done with the fad and will move on to bigger and better things.

Me, i'm definitely not getting involved in this fad.

Good luck to all the people getting involved in the fad early, you might be able to catch it before it turns into the new norm
Good for you. Helluva way to cover up a lot of hate, with a veiled "good luck".

Can you share which bands I should listen to before they go radio live? The next japense dry/salveage denim line?

If you could let me know what the next fad is, as early as possible, it'd help my investment portfolio immensely. I unfortunately missed out on razor scooters, longboards, hoola-hoops.

I rememeber when I was first started snowboarding, that it too was called a fad. You wouldn't remember that though.

how strong is this stuff? I have a cracked monster mat and water gets through to carpet. Wondering if a few coats of this would seal it and take a little shoe wear. The new monster mats from dealer for my car suck balls - they are thinner and don't cover nearly as much of the floor of the car. I'd rather try to fix mine.

        Exactly how I see it.

What did I learn today? You can hate and bash on people as much as you want only if you commend them and wish them good luck.

Hahaha there is a thread on DYC forum titled something like "random weird things you've dipped". a guy dipped his whole arm. Apparently he figured it would be easy to peel but forgot how hairy his arm was lol

Honestly Stefan I dont think it would hold up on the monster mats. I guess it all depends on where the crack in the monster mats is, but if its in a spot where your feet would be rubbing up against it all the time, it wouldnt hold up very long. With that said, its plasti-dip. There is no harm in trying, so if you want to give it a shot just PM me. I have some extra black plasti-dip we can use to test it out.

hmm, i dont really think it would work, if its a big enough crack you could try patching it with some silicone or something like that.. at least thats what i would try.

For fixing rubber that will have some wear i would personally go to Canadian Tire and get a red tube of black "Automotive Goop". It is an incredible adhesive for rubbers and stays pliable when dry, and matches color and texture of rubber. It is essentially a tube of rubber that you can mold to your liking and use to fix cracks and hold stuff together

OG members of this forum are going (or in a couple of cases ARE) on 10 years. This bickering over "Fads" or "Trends" happens every couple years, Being part of a "Fad" or b*tching about said fad is nothing new. Lets name a few....

Porsche wheels (I was part of that one)
Removing perfectly good EFI for carbs
Rat Stylz (you think plasti dip is controversial? Pff)
VR6 swaps (Loved it, lots thought it was an abomination)
                      Mad Dish
                      Shaved engine bays
                      M3 sideskirts

                      Duckbills
                      Ronal Turbos
                      Zender anything
                      Mk4's (lol)

                      etc. etc. etc.

Lets all just get along. Nothing wrong with plasti dip but not for everyone (like everything listed above) including myself.

Very true. Not gonna lie I laughed pretty hard at the ratstylez one when I read it. I remember that fad VERY well and yes, that was controversial lol. Either way it doesnt matter. Everything that is done to cars becomes a fad, its just a matter of how long it lasts. I'm not expecting PD to be around for long, nor am I expecting majority of people to like it/want to do it, but for those who are curious to try it out i'll be there to help

going to throw white on one side of the car and blue on the other. I also want to pick up some of the blaze lime green color as well and switch it up over the winter as i please. I have some ideas floating around in my head in regards to roof rack/box/winter ride ideas and colors so im excited to see how it all turns out.
