          Re: plasti dipping colors

I'll chime in here and tell you all my experiences. There is a website that sells all this stuff called dipyourcar.com. They sell all the colors, all the needed products, and they have very good videos of how to do this stuff. Unfortunately, the videos are the only thing they are good at doing. They have no fvcking clue on how to run a successful business. There is a store in town called Industrial Plastics and Paints (www.ippnet.com) and they sell the whole lineup of Plasti-Dip products.

The coloring kit in the videos above is great, but these are very small amounts of concentrated colors and you would need to buy a sh!t ton of them to make it work on a car. I suggest studying color pallets properly and mixing your own colors. Dipyourcar.com sells gallons of "prethinned" plastidip. They wont share their secret of the thinning ratio they use (which I dont blame them). IPP sells gallons of straight plasti dip. If you do some research on the internet, everyone says that either Toluene or VM&P Naphtha works great for thinning plasti dip. If you check out the specs on the actual Performix Plasti Dip Thinner, you'll notice that its 65% toluene and 35% naphtha.

Many people have different opinions on thinning ratio. I used about 80% toluene to thin the dip I used on my car (3 Liters of toluene for 3.78 liters of plastidip). This may be the reason I got so much texture, but i'll never know until I try another color/car one day. If you keep track of what you are mixing, it shouldn't be too hard to mix paints to get a certain color. I'm still curious to try mixing white with a bit of black to get a dark grey matte finish (kind of like platinum grey in color). But if you understand how colors work, the possibilities are endless.

If you guys have any questions about any of this stuff, feel free to ask. I will use my experience with this to try and help out as much as possible!
