It will be at least 4 years until the track is in operation. It will take at least a year for the permits, then the grading and utilities will take a year if not two. I would say closer to two based on the money they are budgeting right now. Over time and weekends will probably not be in the contract of course as they can eat up money fast.

They would also be wise to wait or plan it to start in 2 years as right now they will pay a premium to move any earth. With all these big projects like the airport, stoney trail, ect going on for the next 2 years the supply and demand has kicked in and boosted prices up. Wait till these two big jobs are up and you will be able to get the work done at a cheaper price.

I look forward to this, although wished this was built before they decided to tear down race city to create a compost pad (You know that green bin organics, that's what's going there).

It's not big enough though, they want a new one. There was an article a few weeks ago about it

Too bad we have a 3 year void between tracks.
Not to derail the thread, but a VR swapped coupe is nowhere near a track worthy car. Make sure you put a nice BBK on there so you can actually turn the corners at decent speeds. Having a heavy VR motor in the front end of a light weight little MK2 will make it go fast in a straight line but thats about it.

As for the track, I agree that this should have been in the planning and development stages LONG before race city was shut down!

I asked my boss today (Owner of Bucars RV in Balzac) what he knows about it. He was part of the big meeting the other day and says they will be breaking ground on it before the end of this year.

This is all I could find in a brief search but it does indicate that they're looking for a larger training facility: http://metronews.ca/news/calgary/315...-very-closely/
