Re: New motorsports race track proposed for near Airdrie

Somebody over the weekend mentioned the track plan and i told him the last track that was built in Canada was Calabogie probably 10 years ago told him tracks don't get built in Canada they get bulldozed.

So i did some digging to see how old it really was and it was built in 2006. Then i decided to see what was before that as i had no idea and it was Mission back in 94/96. Then i almost cried at the next newest track and i use newest loosely here Shannonville 1977!!!! at least they added the Fabi expansion back in the 80's I actually remember when the Fabi course was being built (Lived in Ontario at the time).

Went over the list of active race tracks in Canada and i think i only need 3 or 4 to have visited them all. (Calabogie, Trois Riviers and Atlantic Motorsports park possibly Mont Tremblant but i might have gone there as a young child)
2020 Toyota Corolla Hatch (At least its a Manual!)

          2004 Mygale SJ04 - Racecar

Read the sun this morning and yes it is a go ahead. Location is 10k east of airdrie and just north of 567. There will be a 4.5km race course, 0.6km drag strip, 1.2 km kart track as well. The road course is first to open in early 2014. Also, the track is suppose to attract Porsche GT3 and Ferrari 458 series. "....it's the perfect location. There are exciting elevation changes that will challenge even the most experienced driver." - Ryan Ockey

mmm not a go ahead yet by any means.

All these articles say proposal then talks about sparsely populated areas and not agricultural land sounds like they are lobbying to the county with those remarks.

Also they have agreements to purchase the land as in not purchased yet.

So 1-2 years min of paper work, contracts and permits first then they can probably think about building something after that.

Rss, your close. Land I bet is subject to a bunch of stuff like zoning (if they are smart). 2yrs for that. Then building permits, then the construction itself. 2016 is more realistic, but again, I hope I am wrong.

I think the biggest issue is the zoning, Rockyview County can be difficult to say the least. In the mean time they can get the drawings done up for the Development Permit, once that's done, they can go for the building permit...It all depends on how fast it goes through Rockyview. We are looking at a development in our office that is going on now three years for approval. In this case, though, there are four others looking to develop the same land...

By the way they are pushing in the media I think they are trying to pressure Rockyview into approving it faster than normal. I know that Calgary Police is also pushing for this because with Race City gone they don't have a good training area for themselves either.

Not true, the City of Calgary has a massive training area where they do their driving instruction for Police, Fire and EMS.

They do need to push for it though so that we all have a place to hang out and BBQ . Would be nice to have a place to race as well.

Maybe, I do know that the police chopper used to hang around at Race City, they may have been testing and training on speed judgement?

I never heard of any more police use of Race City?

SOooooo stoked for this track. Being only 19, I haven't had the chance to actually build a track worthy car. Now I have a goal with the VR coupe.
Too bad we have a 3 year void between tracks.
