P.S. spent a good hour this morning reading all 6 pages of this thread - some interesting facts and takes on living in London vs Calgary.
You've been to Calgary recently (was it a few months ago?) - what did you think of the city coming back after being away for some time?

Thanks and yes I was in Calgary in early September and it is very quiet and boring now, my local mall here can make a regular Saturday look like boxing day at Chinook and if you go to one of the big malls at Christmas time, look out. Of course standing packed on a train or bus is less glamorous than stop and start on the Deerfoot but at least you can try and use up that unlimited data on your phone

That's awesome Blair, looks like a nice place! You'll just have to track down an Up! soon to put in that parking space haha.

I would love an Up!, just wish they would do a sporty version (GTI) and I hear the automatic is pretty dreadful and unfortunately I have to take a driving test to drive a manual which is not too exciting at my age.

Congrats! Go buy a scooter.

We tried that in Calgary and it was not a great success, plus the roads here are fairly chaotic.

Awesome, looks like a wicked building, congrats!

Building is nice, high end spec and very modern and efficient, so it will be a nice change compared to a 1920s drafty old place.

Well it is big announcement time, the Mrs and I are moving again, but a big one this time, our next destination is going to be Hong Kong!

Our current visas are set to expire next year and we have reached the limit on this class and in order to change to one that will allow us to work towards permanent residency we have to leave the country for a 12 month period, what they call cooling off. Yes there are people living in this country sponsored by companies, paying taxes, and no access to benefits without the ability to stay here long-term, end Brexit rant.

Therefore we have used this moment as an opportunity to pick up and try setting up in another part of the world and through my wife’s work Hong Kong has come up as our new home for the next year or so. I was over recently (my third visit lifetime) trying to find a place to live and getting as organized as possible but we are on pace to move the middle of next month. Hong Kong is a very dense and expensive place to live, and by all means makes London look cheap; for reference a 450 sq ft 1 bedroom is a deal at $2,200 Cdn a month.

I have been working in the toy business for the last year and a bit (importing, selling and running a convention event) and so Hong Kong is an amazing place for me to be, and I already have made numerous connections on my last visits so I am very much looking forward to the time over there.

Soon this thread will be replaced by the HK equivalent but we do hope to return to the UK for the long-term although anything is possible and now this is where home will be, Happy Valley HK!!
