Fucking IRL ruined open wheel racing in NA why the **** would i support them in any way
2020 Toyota Corolla Hatch (At least its a Manual!)
2001 Audi S4 (Trunk still smells like Ryan?)
2001 Audi A4 - RIP
2004 Mygale SJ04 - Racecar
2013 Toyota Sienna - Baby Transporter
2001.5 Audi S4 -SOLD
1986 Reynard SF86 -SOLD
2003 Jetta GLI - Garbage bin
At the end of the day if you don't support them, you won't have anything to support. What other racing of this caliber comes to Alberta? I personally don't care for the rich folk sport of open wheel racing, but I do recognize that we need any form of auto racing we can atract to this province.
There are plenty of different forms of racing you can go support you just have to travel a little. We don't get any other form of racing in this province because this province doesn't have any race tracks!

Ah the downfall of Open Wheel racing in North America is a classic tale of greed betrayal and despair.
Sad thing it is the second time it has happened obviously they never learned from the first split between USAC and CART way back in the day.
Following the late 80's and early 90's Cart/Indycar was at the height of its popularity great drivers good mix of tracks sponsorship money great racing etc
Mid 90's roll around and Tony George who runs the Indy 500 wants all the money and power for himself. Meanwhile the rest of the teams want to hold other races in may and shorten the amount of time spent at INDY then it was 4 weeks spent at the speedway and Tony made everyone pay for each sheet of toilet paper they used and the air they where breathing. Teams say drop it to 2 weeks and they will hold another race earlier in the month thus begins the fighting. (Now a days they only spend 2 weeks at Indy go figure )
Tony George sets up his own series The Idiot Racing League (IRL) in 94ish and starts it racing by 96 all the quality teams split with INDY and are the Championship auto racing teams (CART). So cart has all the good teams Penske, Newman Haas, Players Forseyth, Ganasi, etc and run most of the road courses the IRL has the INDY 500 and 100% pay drivers trying to kill themselves and others at only ovals as they haven't learned how to turn right yet. As the split took half the sponsorship money away from each then the half the TV ratings then everybody got tired of it all and Nascar took all the money. So by the late 90's the teams of CART are running out of money and have no sponsorship and a shitty TV deal but still good attendance at the race tracks say 150K at the molson indy toronto compared to last years IRL Toronto indy of 15K. So the CART teams are running out of money while Tony and his IRL lose massive amounts of money but he still has the deep pockets and the Indy 500. Eventually due to no more money CART/Champcar folds and is re-absorbed by the IRL and renamed ITARDZOD INDY CAR WHO GIVES THE **** SOMETHING OR OTHER. Some teams come over Ganasi etc but the rest say **** it all and retire from racing.
Now with no competition left IRL decides to kill open wheel racing buy making it a spec racer series with the 3rd ugliest car ever made and to top it off put rear fenders on it thanks DULLARA.
O by the way i am slightly biased towards the CART side of things.

I'm kind of disappointed as I was hoping to try to make it in the next year or 2. I'm not a major fan or anything just heard it's a really fun time and, well, it's racing.
Read on twitter yesterday that Indy might be coming back to Alberta.. but this time Calgary! Apparently there are plans to have the track done on the Stampede grounds... not sure how concrete any of this is.
That Stampede rumor is almost as old as Castrol raceway is building a road course rumor. But Indycar did mention that they would have 2 Canadian races this year Toronto and ? I am thinking Montreal personally.
