Driving without spare.

Looking for opinions from guys that ride without spares. Do you just use the force or carry a can of that slime stuff? I have on board air so no problem filling tires

I have had to use the slime in the R8 before so I would say carry a can just in case. Smart Car also came with slime only and Fiat's have spare tires as optional extras.

Does the slime work good? I mean if you have a baseball size hole in the sidewall, it wont work so good, lol. I heard also that some tire shops wont touch a tire once its has that stuff in it.

You should never repair any puncture on a tire sidewall or shoulder, only in the actual treads.
On any long distance trips you might wanna throw a spare tire in if you are worried about it, but in the city i dont bother. I have AMA plus so i get 160kms of towing a year. So no real big risk except a bit of lost time.

In my experience the slime ruined the tire but I had no other options (out of town, Sunday night) but not sure I would run a patched tire on a car like that either but in my case it did keep me from being stranded. As mentioned in the city is a bit different than out of town or long trips but for a few bucks for a can might not be a bad backup just in case, nice to have options.

I;m just wondering as the audi never had a safe useable jack to change a spare anyways, but now with the air system, I have and want to carry a bunch of tools and spare parts just in case and with the limited trunk space due to the tank stage I have less room for luggage and tool bags etc. I'm talking for long distance, ie leavenworth or great canadian. Actually in all my years of driving (knock on wood) I've never had a tire blow out and only had about 3-4 flats from screws or nails, this is in 23 years of driving and 8 different vehicles. I'm super anal about checking tire pressures and examining tire for FOD. If i got rid of my spare or found a doughnut that fit i could fill my tire well with parts and tools.

What kind of Slim is being used? If it is the green stuff called 'Slime' that **** is garbage. Stan's is so much better. I've used it from bike tires to 1 ton truck tires. Holds well, and it will seal up to a 1/4" hole. I run in all of my tires in all of the things that have tires. Including wheelbarrows. Had nothing but problems with that green slime stuff.

I used Audi OEM slime, no experience with anything else.

I drive without spares and without "Fix-a-flat" in a can. I've had three tire issues in the last 10 years however these were all "leaks" first (ie. screws stuck in tires). I noticed them while driving... and both in the city. Made it easily to tire shop all three times and fixed them up right away.

I've never had a blow-out ever. I suppose if I did on the highway... I'm stuck with calling AMA and waiting.

To the OP, as long as you aren't driving on super worn out tires... driving without a spare shouldn't be an issue. Especially with a nice air pump installed! If it were me... there's no way I would carry a spare in your case. Offset the loss of weight with a couple cases of beer if needed!

There are some videos of them driving over a 2x4 full of nails and puncturing the **** out of that tire and it seals them up, in no time. It is a liquid latex of sorts, it is wicked.

I just drove 6,800km's all over the west coast of the states and Canada with no spare. I have AMA and I'm good with that.

Those tire patch kits from CT work really well. Just throw one of those and a bike pump in the trunk and you can repair it permanently on the side of the road and be on your way.

When I went 5-lug my spare donut was rendered obsolete. Tossed aside with the pizza cutter was the widow maker (read: jack) and I've been wondering about this myself.
