In the JDM market they have a 5400k bulb available, didn't know that OEM toyota came with 5500k in NA.
But just use something below 6000K and you will be good usually unless a cop is cracking down hard.

Sorry Mac but 12000k is absolutely ridiculous. It puts a ridiculous amount of strain on your eyes if you are driving for longer than like 10 minutes at night and have a horrendous output and far too much contrast with the road. The extreme contrast will be horrible for long distance vision for highway driving. 12000K IMO is very unsafe for you the driver.
I find them great, can see dear from a mile away and don't find my eyes straining ur I do agree with what you are saying as well

Only reason I mentioned it is because it's been true for me. Has several times where the cop looks at my lights and tint and does nothing. We're the people u know having limo tint or something rediculous? Cause mines dark but still shapes are visible which cops have mentioned

well i decided im gonna keep them in. i love how the yellow matches everything else on my car. i guess ill just see what happens with the cops, hopefully persuade them out of giving me a ticket, and i do have them pointed somewhat downwards so its not glaring in people's eyes like people with hid's in the stock reflective housing. thanks everyone for the input, much apreciated!

^^^ just make sure you keep the stock bulbs in your car so you can switch them out just in case they say they will tow you.....

Ah I had 38% tint on the front, so not even that dark. Had one ticket, and had to remove it once as well. I was at a light when the cop saw me, followed me and pulled me over. All depends on the cop.

Well sorry to say but I feel that you just haven't had good lighting to compare yours to. I actually just blew a bulb last night (funny that) because they are fairly old bulbs but i am confident that my one headlight that does work will provide far more useable light than both of your headlights combined and yet have less strain on your eyes. When i get my new bulbs in I would be more than willing to take you for a ride and teach you a little bit about lighting and how to optimize it

Re: 3000k hid headlights, legal or illegal.

I ran those bulbs for about a year and had zero issues, my friend has had 3000K low beams in his civic for even longer without issues.. and blue.. and purple. I had green ones in my car for about a week I would say and had cops drive in front of me, even followed one on stoney trail from beacon hill to deerfoot and had no problems as well. Took them out because they were way to green for me and I couldn't see anything at all when the road was wet. The way I see it, something on almost all of our cars is illegal anyways, do we all still do it? yes! so if you like it, go for it!! Building YOUR car for YOU not people of vortex or whatever. Most cops probably will not care, some are total dicks and might pull you for it while other cops are totally useless, liars and completely stupid (from experience I now know you can get away with a hit and run, they dont give a f*ck) I also heard somewhere that they are no longer on a quota system so might be a little less caring for minor things like this - correct me if i'm wrong, I would actually like to know!

Now I have a question to! Somebody said it's okay to have yellow fog lights? but Popp stated below the bumper its okay to have yellow but above is not. So what about us MK4 guys that have the fog lights in the headlight housings above the bumper? Okay or not? I have had yellow halogen not HID bulbs in there forever and had no issues with those either, even using them as DRL because the halos/angel eyes look silly imo.

Also Sean your lights make me want to do a retrofit next, that output is amazing!!

yeah i agree with the others saying its up to the cop if you ever get bugged for it.

at least blazer fogs have a cut off. ive been using Hella driving lights for years and no hassle yet. They have no cut off at all. meant for off roading. i was misinformed when i bought them. i aim them as low as i can and only run them as DRLs.

If that's where the OEM fog light is, then I think your ok. You could show the cop that it only turns on when the switch is pointed to fogs, and they turn off when you put your high beams on. not below the bumper but still an OEM fog light....

The other possibility is that you can't run yellow fog lights? White will be just fine except in blizzards. But then again any high mounted light doesn't provide the best light. Again you could always keep extra bulbs in your car for just in case or just turn your fogs off except in bad weather in which they are intended for.
