  • Paint Pens any good tips for success?

Hi all, here's my latest hard hitting question for you...

Paint pens, are there any tips or tricks to using them?

Here's what I did today...I have a nice chip on the roof of my car and I went to fill it ...Of course the blue pen was the clear coat, and the yellow pen was the sprint blue color (why wouldn't they pack it that way...), so I made a bit of a mess with the clear coat is there a trick or something I can use to clean it up?

The paint was thicker then the clear coat, and I took my time and did three different applications to fill the chip and it looks good but now I'm scared to use the clear coat pen since it made a mess already lol.

Thanks for any tips or help.

    Mike

Get yourself some matches (the cheap soft cardboard type, not the wooden ones). Tear one of the matches out and use the frayed end (kinda resembles a tiny paint brush).

Dab your paint pen on a clean piece of plastic and build up a little glob. Then use the frayed end of the match to collect a small amount of paint. Carefully paint-in the chip and let it dry. You will probably need to do this 2 or three times to fill the chip so that it is even with the original paint. For each application use a new glob of paint and a new match.

This works very well and you will not leave a mess.
