My wife is going tomorrow direct on AC and it was only $1050, booked fairly last minute, generally if you stay over a weekend it is cheaper. Goes up in summer time though, especially this one with the Queen's events, Euro 2012 and the Olympics making Europe and exciting spot.
Even the Flight Center at the mall was advertising London as the deal of the week at $89 plus taxes/fees, was about $650 total I think but not sure on the dates or carrier of course.
Edit: Raj I might be able to bring you some stuff in about a month and maybe we can grab a drink or something if time allows!!
$1050 is a good fare. I used to fly home to London once (and even twice) a year. BA used to have them around the $800-1000 depending on season. I paid $1050 with BA back in 2010. Book ahead and you can get them cheap, one time I only paid $750 with BA.
Chartered flights are cheaper, anywhere from $500+, downside is the seats are tiny and changing the ticket dates are almost a no no. The cost is almost like buying a new ticket. With BA you can change the tickets by only paying $100.
Baggage allowance is different too. Im not sure if BA still does it on that route, but I could take two suitcases up to 30kilos (One time I got chatty with the check in babe and got a third piece in for free!). Chartered I think is one suite case and up to 20kilos. But you can always pay extra.
Its give and take on both. I found the Thomas cook chartered flights really good if not better than BA(but they are seasonal). Aside from the tiny seats (im only 5ft'8 and I struggled). They good value.
But with European football (soccer!) kicking off, Olympics and the Queens Jubilee this year... tickets prices will be interesting..
in London? honestly the hop on-off bus tour is pretty good the whole city is pretty amazing... hit up harrods to blow your mind.. and hyde park is stunning
be prepared to see so many baller cars its not funny.. i stopped counting
If you like art, especially of the modern variety the Tate Modern is a must visit IMO, plus a very cool building on a great spot on the Thames.
Oxford Street shopping, British Museum, London Aquarium, London Zoo, London Eye, Tower of London are all things you could look into depending on your interests and budget.
Blair Former Cars: '12 Fiat 500, '10 VW GTI, '05 Smart Fortwo, '96 VW Jetta GLX, '02 VW GTI 337.........
Some useful ideas on the site too.
If the weather is nice, you can do a day trip to windsor (castle & park) and there are some nice pubs there. Trains run from Paddington Station. If you want to stay in London...
Guanabara is a nice funky night club too, its in Holborn.
Oxford street is ok for shopping, check out Covent Garden or the back streets near Bond Street. Some interesting stores, Camden has some funky restaurants, bars and cheap quirky shopping. Or hit up Westfield shopping centre (will put Chinook, Market Mall to shame combined).
Day time you can check out Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Hyde Park as there near each other. Just buy a oyster card and charge it up with a day travel card. Valid from 9.30am onwards. Just hop on and off the tube.
Kensington area has the museums, Natural History, Science and Victoria and Albert. They free and you can kill time there. Once your done you can walk down to Harrods its a ten minute walk.
