  • sooo.. i sold my subaru, now i am on the hunt for something new(euro)

i really like the idea of a wagon of some sort.
but i still don't really know what i want
    budget is 20k
    can anyone recommend something?
i was almost sold on the idea of a E500 wagon (2005) there's one on kijji for around there.
it has factory air suspension, so i could lower it with a handful of washers..
but i am scared of maintenance with them.
then i found a 325ix wagon in BC with some wheels which is kinda cool
my mind is all over the map.
i am open to ideas thou

S4 avant? S6 avant (if you can find one).

todd i'd go after a bmw wagon.. very rare to find.. hard to get a manual i bet tho

or a b6/b7 s4 avant? you had a 4.2 before so you know what they'll be like already

Re: sooo.. i sold my subaru, now i am on the hunt for something new(euro)

I was in this exact same situation for over 4 months, my initial budget was under 25, then went to 30 then 35 because I couldn't find a car I wanted to replace a Mk5 Rabbit and a Mk4 GTI.

To be honest a lot of people on the internet are going to say things like "totally get a B6 S4 Avant" but they seem to think that these rare cars grow on trees. Finding one is next to impossible - if not impossible. It's like bench racing... bench shopping. When you do find one there will be something wrong with it. Or if it's a "rare find" it will be much more than 20k because the owner knows they can mark it up by 50%.

Best of luck, but my advice to you would be to skip the idea of a "rare find" entirely. Instead of trying to find a great deal on a car that's outside your budget (paying 20k for a car that should be 30k), I would look lower than your budget and try to find a prime example (spend 20k on a sweet example of a 15k car).

I would look for something like an early Mk5 GTI, yes its downsize from a wagon but you can get into a nice one for 20K and it'll be fast, low kms, fun to drive, fairly practical, nice interior, good shape, no accidents, good resale, etc.

There is also this Subaru - I know you just got out of one but this is a great deal and the XT Limited is a rare find.

              omg! i love the e30 m3
but i find it hard to justify the price of a car from the 80's
similar price to an e46 m3

im going to look at importing a bmw 335 from california..
              i found one w/48,000miles for 17k
              but its automatic
              we will see

Last time I heard, count on a $5000 bill from your local BMW dealership to import a US car. :/

Id be willing to part with my wagon ..07 s-line 3.2 loaded, 68km

The 3.2 for a dude that wants to mod probably isn't the right choice though :P

Ya that is all scare tactics and bs lol

To import any car you need the following:

                          1. RIV approved
                          2. Clearance letter from manufacturer / recall history
                          3. DRL
                          4. Then take to your local Canadian tire and you are good to go

There is no reason to take the car to any dealer

Doesn't the letter and recall history come from the dealer?

I should have said any local dealer. Usually the US dealers are usually pretty happy to help you out. The letter needs to come either from head office or from the dealer service history database
