    For sure unsafe.

I drive the QE2 fairly often. Sketchy as hell, when there are cops out at midnight or later, in total darkness.

I am pretty calm driver and I find it somewhat startling. I can`t imagine how a more skiddish driver might react to it.

You should tell him to contact the news that did the story, I'm sure they would love to know that the "official statement" is different than practice, I'd love to watch that story. Don't know why you're yelling

There are no bums walking up to people's windows, giving them tickets. He looks in quick, if you are on a cell phone or otherwise distracted he radios up ahead and a uniformed officer with a cruiser pulls you over.

But that guy got his ticket from the bum. So......

It is greasy. As was said earlier, I often look at something, or fiddle with my phone when a bum walks past. I would fight that, just for the sake of fighting it. Go do some real police work, like getting back one of my many stolen bikes, or the guy who broke into our garage or the guy who broke into all of the cars on a friend's street.

No money in that though, I suppose.

So you are saying they are wasting two cops time instead of one?

Maybe we should get Alberta to transfer funds from the Calgary Police Department to the Medicine hat school district to better teach the mad hatters how to read and then take what they read and process it into reason........

The guy in the thread. Why would he have anything to make up? For street cred on a forum?

I get the sense that you are an RCMP officer.

What would the RCMP have to gain in discrediting the public? Oh wait...

I used to agree with this, but a buddy cop of mine made a good point once. He said "imagine if we didn't stop that drunk at the check stop or the person texting while driving, and your mom was on the other side of the accident they caused." Now I also agree that pulling over that texter will never make them stop texting after the fact, but what if it prevented an accident that hour they were stopped?

BUT agreed that the intersection tactic is a huge cash cow and not needed. I have never seen an accident while at a stop light and if there ever was one, i bet it would be cause of stupidity or ice. not texting while stopped.

Going on what ifs isn't really a good reason or excuse in my books because you could think of any crazy 'what if' scenario that has the potential to happen. For example, what if the time taken to pull someone over made them later than they would have been, leading to them into an accident somewhere else that wouldn't have happened had they been on time? What if someone getting pulled over created another accident through another driver not paying attention (rubbernecking etc...)? What if someone getting pulled over made them late to work and as a result they get fired which was the last straw and they decide to take their own life or the lives of others?

                      What if excuses don't work.

No one at any point said that this "bum" produced an actual law enforcement badge, he just had the card board sign saying he was an officer. If that was the case I would of just laughed at him and drove away. Its no different to the stupid douche that was impersonating an officer a while back with read and blue lights in his car. Besides, if your stopped at a light which is (how long..30 sec?) with a substantial amount of traffic behind you and this person comes up to your window, for the time it takes for you to realize whats going on, roll down your window, the officer to explain whats going on and take your information (which dont they have to run your id to check for priors?) issue the ticket etc etc...the light would of changed about 5 mins ago, which in turn would hold up all that traffic causing major headaches, everyone would be complaining and it would be stopped in a hurry.

Besides, this distracted law IS nothing but a cash grab because you cant enforce common sense! How many people will get this ticket and go " wow I shouldnt of been doing that, I will never do that again" and go on their merry way. Hell how many people get stopped for speeding and go "wow I shouldnt of been doing that, I will never do that again"? There is a law that been around since christ wore short pants called UNDUE CARE AND ATTENTION, it carries a waaaaaaaay bigger fine and actual dermits, this would make people stop and think of what their doing and cops can issue it at their discretion (which I would say texting is undue care and attention). I got it when I was sixteen and learnt my lesson!

Haha, I actually met you once at the Lethbridge streetwheelers show popp. And I don't believe anything till I see proof of it, I am just crazy that way, especially things on the internet. Sorry Bonfire, not RCMP. I just don't understand why when someone calls the police to see if they are doing this, they would lie. Especially in this day when the guy getting the ticket obviously had his cell phone (otherwise he wouldn't have got a ticket) yet didn't take a pic of it (the cop dressed as a bum).
Makes no difference to me, I text probably twice a day at max, never while driving, and I have blutoof in my car.
