  • Auto Wrecker Question

I have zero experience with auto wreckers.

I'm thinking about doing something crazy - trying to track down a full leather interior from a Tiguan, then buying one with Cloth if I can make the seats happen.

I'm sure some of you guys have done your share of finding parts. What are my chances, where would I start?

    Re: Auto Wrecker Question

I'd say thats going to be very difficult to pull off. And if you do, its not going to be super cheap. Ie: have seen many people part out full leather interior including door cards on here before and the price was quite reasonable. Thats not going to be the case when going through a decent wrecker.

I guess it depends on what unreasonable turns out to cost But yeah I realize it's a long shot idea.

        Re: Auto Wrecker Question

I've been dealing with high to low end wreckers since I was a kid (dad used to make me hunt down parts for our w126 MBZ because he wanted me to learn how to talk to adults haha). What I very quickly learned is that there are only so many people in the german wrecking market........and they have it cornered

Manchester/Black Gold had all the stuff I needed but it did cost a decent amount. Point is, if you are looking to save a buck I would say buy the Tiguan with leather and forget about the hassle. Not worth it.

I know it's not OEM, but katzkin leather seems to be a hit with the mk6 TDI guys in the states. (leather is not available for them) the fit looks pretty good to me Click image for larger version

Used it to buy a mirror from Quebec with great success. But also tried to use it for a roof rack which happens to be much more rare item, so they are selling for 75% off new.

Aren't the cloth seats all manual and leather seats power?

What kind of roof rack are you looking for? Sam at Atlantic auto usually has a few kicking around!

It was a Nissan Frontier roof rack. lol. Shortly after calling around some places, someone on the Frontiers board posted one for a steal. The wreckers that had them knew it what it costs so weren't flexible on price. Got a feeling it will be the same story for these seats...

The Katzkin installer in Calgary charges ~$1,600 just for the seats.

If it were me, I'd start looking on:

Ebay (.ca, .com, .co.uk, .de, etc.)
                      Kijiji
                      Forums
                      craigslist

Try local, I've had minimal success with Black Gold but you never know unless you ask.

A collision/insurance/repo auction would be tempting to keep an eye on to see what comes through at random.

Chances are limited to your available time, ingenuity and resources.

Perhaps there are some leather seats from another VW (or VAG car) that fits the frame-rails, and then all you'd have to do is have the door cards covered locally.

so leather is on the auto but not manual??????? huh!????

                        nevermind i tried building one

i wouldn't get it with FWD so the only option is the highline and leather and auto..

i see fake leather is available... i would try the katzkin i guess, it's $2k for tiguan...

the other option is, don't forget vw/audi seats come in parts, you can't order the whole seat pre-assembled, which means, you can order factory cloth/leather seat covers direct from vw...
