  • wide angle vs fisheye lens?

anyone have both or want to comment? i think a wide angle would be better off

using canon.. anything people can recommend? 10-20mm or something like that with AF of course..

Fisheye lenses give distorted field of view and Wide Angle lenses give a traditional picture.

Google "20mm wide angle pictures" and "10mm fisheye pictures and you will see what I mean.

If you are starting out try a 20mm wide angle and a Lensbaby Scout with the fisheye optic

Or if money were not an issue go with:

I opted for the 10-22 over a fish eye as it doesn't distort the image. Sure fish eye photos look cool, but eventually you'll get tired of them. Not a lens you can shoot with all the time.

The 10-22 on the other hand, I'd say I use it in 95% of my shots

Yeah Fisheyes were cool in 90's skate photography. They are neat to have, but useless otherwise.

Sigma makes two 10-20mm. a f4-5.6 and a f3.5 . Both comparable to the Canon 10-22., in terms of sharpness. Sigma also has a 10year warranty to Canon's 1 year. Fisheye's are cool, but the look get's old. that's just my opinion

Even Tamron and Tokina make great lenses, with very good warranties.

That Tokina is some rad ****.

I wouldn't even waste a fart on a sigma lens.

canon was sold out.. but instead i picked up the tokina 11-16mm f/2.8! its solid as ****!

tried some samples before i bought it,etc and have a return/credit policy if i no likey but reviews are solid for it so i should be quite happy

too bad i have to wrap it up for myself now hahaha

i'd have opted for the sigma but its just me. it seems most stuff has been covered. fisheye is more of an effect than something you want to use in an everyday basis (though some people seemt o think EVERYTHING should be shot with a fisheye and HDR).

you should be happy with the f2.8, usually with wide angle getting light to the sensor isn't a huge issue so the f-stop is less important as say a 70-200mm lens but its worth having. they are heavier for sure. both the fact its a 11-16, and a f2,8 will increase the weight.
