iPhone 4S or 4? That is the question!

Any of you guys and girls on here jumped from a 4 to a 4S? Was it worth the upgrade; is SIRI and dual core really worth it over a 4 that has been updated? I've only experienced a 3 till this point and now have a 4S sitting at Rogers - just don't know whether I save myself a buck or two and go with a 4 because it'll suffice and wait it out for a 5!!

Get the 4... The 4s was only released to put the pressure onto blackberry users to finally switch over. Apple releases a new physical model every 2 years. So the 4s is the half release which is just a faster processor and better camera. If you get the 4s, you'll be locked into a plan that doesn't allow an upgrade to the 5 next fall.

So buy a used 4. Customize it with a nice colorful screen and make it new again. Save your contract renewal for when the 5 comes out.

You can get screen and back replacements from eBay for like $50-60 USD.. I change mine every few weeks. This is what it looks like now...

was playing with a coworkers 4s yesterday. its quicker, but not by much. SIRI is a neat toy, but i dont really know how long the novelty will last with it, and since its a software thing i could easily see it coming to the 4.

The biggest "changes" with the 4s from the 4 were iOS5....and since thats avialable to the 4, and the 4 didn't slow down like crazy using iOS5 i can't really see the justification in the switch.

Wait for the real iphone 5 in 12-18 months that will be a HARDWARE upgrade and not a software one.

The 4s is a hardware upgrade. Better camera, processor, etc.

And I doub Siri will ever be available on the 4, just like video recording wasn't available on the 3G.

That being said, I'll be waiting till the 5 comes out before I upgrade my 4

My daughter just busted her 3GS so she'll get my 4 and I will get the 4S in a couple of days. Yeah, better camera & processor would qualify as a hardware upgrade. Same thing happened when the 3GS came out to replace the 3G, internals were changed but exterior was maintained.

Once I test it out I'll post my opinion

if you have the OLD 3G then i would buy a 4S today if you dont' mind being on a contract

IOS5 is the better improvement over the HW so if you can even the 4 is a great phone and nothing wrong with it either

i'll go iphone5 when they come out to replace my 4 but i may replace my wifes old 3g with a 4s

I went from 3GS to the 4S, it's a huge upgrade in that sense. As for not doing a redesign, it doesn't make sense to do so every year. From a business perspective keeping the form factor is a huge benefit to the secondary and tertiary businesses which are based on the iPhone platform. Not to mention that your cost of production reduces if maintained over an extended period of time. In my opinion Apple has really silently stated that for every new redesign, they'll keep it for two years, and improve the internals for the second rev. 3G -> 3GS, 4 -> 4S, 5 -> 5S.

Siri won't make it to the 4, it's probably because it requires additional processing power to facilitate it's operation. I actually see it becoming more useful, and used more frequently going forward. Especially as new features get added, locations become usable in Canada, and it comes out of beta status.

Just my two cents.

Well I am actually pretty pleased with the iphone 4s vs my old iphone 4. I use Siri pretty often actually, I was emailing etc through bluetooth in the car using Siri (does that count as distracted driving?). The phone is significantly quicker and one thing no one has mentioned is the antennas are improved. I agree that as new crap gets added Siri will get even better too.

Biggest thing i've heard is battery life blows. Buddy in my class almost never uses his phone and he charges it over night and once through the day, took it to the apple store and was told "thats just the way it is, they upgraded the processors but not the battery so it has a shorter life"

Apple released a statement today about a software update for the 4s that is supposed to fix the problem of short battery life.
