  • Cell Phone Carriers

    Hey Everyone,
I’m considering changing phone carriers and wondering who your with. I’m currently with Telus and have no complaints other then a very high monthly bill for my Blackberry.

Curious to know some pro’s and con’s with other carriers and who you guys recommend.

Also, for any of you who have a Smartphone/IPhone, what monthly fee are you roughly paying?

    Thanks!

i'm on rogers and bell. one is work one is personal.

same **** regardless of company. i despise Telus customer service or what they try and pass off as customer service but aside from that the big 3 are all pretty similiar in terms of coverage.

      Re: Cell Phone Carriers

I hate Telus service so I went with Rogers, not a whole lot better but better than Telus I found. I think I average about $75 a month for BB bill, got quite a few add-ons and rarely go over except US text's/calls.

Might ditch this whole smartphone thing since networks are crashing and phones just break more often these days, whats the point in having a phone with email if I only get emails 5 days a month on my phone? Useless s***

        Re: Cell Phone Carriers

I had Rogers, they get zero coverage in my rural area. Good customer service though. Now I'm with Bell, exact same coverage as telus as telus uses their towers. No word on customer service really though, sat on hold for 35 minutes last time I called, telus has call back hold.

I'm $70 month. I think it's 200 minutes, free local evening and weekends, unlimited text, lots of data and fav 5 Canada wide.

No ******** extra fees, no contract. $70/month 1 GB data, 200 daytime minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends starting at 6pm, unlimited Can., U.S and international text/picture message and canada wide 10 buddies. Its on the bell/telus network.

I have Rogers, never had any issues. $80 a month for 1GB, 10 friends unlimited everything, unlimited messaging, unlimited social networking (which is also the data anyway), unlimited evenings and weekends, iPhone package with visual voicemail, and 250 daytime minutes. Pretty much everything I could ever need.

Telus, the future is friendly, the present isn't.
I have been with Rogers for a while. I have a neutered family plan, no text no call display no nothing, about $55 for both phones.

I am currently using WIND mobile (have been since the launch). Pretty happy with it. Sure the service is no good in some areas, but when it is, I roam on Rogers for cheap. $40 bucks a month for unlimited everything and every calling feature I honestly cant complain

                  Re: Cell Phone Carriers

if you like your service you get with Telus, but don;t want to stay with them then go for Bell or Virgin as they share the same network towers as Telus. No plans now a days include Voicemail and Call display so as a bundle it is $12 on Bell and $10 on Virgin. For the Fab10 Plans they start at $60 + GST no hidden fees on Bell or Virgin. $72/month will get you 200 anytime minutes, unltd. evenings & weekends at 6pm, Nationwide talk & text to 10 numbers, unltd. texting nationwide, voicemail and call display, 1GB of data and unlimited social networking. Virgin has the supertab option which is no contract however Smartphones start the supertab around $400+ and 10% of your bill pays that off. Virgin has the best customer service as they won the JD Power and Associates 5 years in a row. Also Virgin has no $35 activation fee.
Rogers plans are exactly the same however you will pay an additional $2.35 as a Government Regulatory Recovery Fee. so $74.35 + GST.
I'm not too sure but on the $60 Bell plan I believe you can get Unlimited Canada wide talking if you ask the sales associate, it is Bells way to compete with Koodoo's Canada unlimited.

                      Re: Cell Phone Carriers

I used to be with Telus, but after my 3 years with them they gave me zero incentive to stay, no new free phone or add ons to my package so i left.

My girlfriend has Rogers and they are a decent plan if you are going to always stay in the major cities in Alberta and Southern Ontario. Besides those two locations their coverage is horrible.

I currently have Bell and they have almost the same packages and rates as Telus, just look out for the plans that they have on special at the time of choosing because you can end up with some pretty sweet deals. Bell has been better with trying to retain customers with adding on tons of options to my plan when i got a new phone (water damage from irrigation work)

I think currently i am paying $70 a month and that includes:
                      - 200 minutes
                      - evenings starting at 6pm and weekends free
                      - 1GB data
                      - my10 across Canada
                      - Unlimited texting
                      - Free social networking (AKA msn, yahoo, facebook)
                      - Voicemail/caller display/call forwarding etc

                          Re: Cell Phone Carriers

its not a retention plan, its positioned to look like a retention plan but you could have gone to any other carrier and got that plan. thats why every three years you might as well switch providers and never take an upgrade unless you really like your service or you have a super old that is unbeatable that they are letting you keep
