  • RS4 or new Golf R

So I'm looking to replace my .:R with a 4 door. I'm stuck between a used (obviously) RS4 and the new golf R. I have my name on a blue R that should be here in the spring sometime. Should be around $40K give or take plus GST. As much as I'm very excited about it, I don't know if I will love it. Here are my pros and cons for both:

    2013 VW Golf R:
    Pros

    -New
    -Warranty
-K04 Turbo so 300HP is just a chip away
    -great looks and interior
    -Practical
    -Low finance rates
-Should be able to pick up for cost
-Should hold its value pretty well

    Cons

    -Exhaust note
    -Expensive for a VW

    2007 or 2008 RS4

    Pros

    -sexy as all hell
-fantastic motor with amazing exhaust note
    -great interior/exterior
    -relatively rare
    -Its an RS4

    Cons

    -Used
    -very expensive to maintain
    -pig on gas
    -No subvented rates
-Hassle of importing as the canadian ones are out of my price range
    -no warranty
-will depreciate faster than Golf I think

    Thats about it I guess.

What are everyones thoughts? I'm leaning more towards the Golf but evertime I see an RS4 I just want one soooo bad!!!!

as much as i love the looks of the new R and everything in it, it just can not compare to an rs4. Every time i see one i cream my pants, way to sexy and one of my fav cars of all time

The two cars are really not very comparable at all. RS4.

They are comparable because they both provide what I'm looking for:

          Four doors
          Practical
          Fun to drive
          Manual transmission
          And all wheel drive.

          That's the criteria.

I suppose. But camels breath air and are mammals you can ride on but I'd rather have a horse (unless I was in a desert of corse).

You should put up a poll, and get everyones input...I would go the .:R personally...best bang for the buck.

Ok well what if the horse was 20 years old and the camel was 2? Same cost and had to ride everyday?

Rs4 - tried and tested you know common problems, what needs to be done when, what to expect.

R32 - unknown, has warranty, but could be plagued with problems down the road.

Well I work for VW so not too worried about that. Plus, if it ends up being a pice of ****, I'll sell it when the warranty expires!

Really my point wasn't to diss the R but rather to illustrate that on paper they are similar but in delivery were very very different. My vote is still for RS4. V8 = awesomeness.

I saw a nice black rs4 V6T this weekend.... drool. I think it all depends how much of a headache you want with repairs etc and what you want to do with it.
