  • Camera Suggestions. Need Help From the PRO's

Looking to buy a DSLR of some sort. In no way am I a professional, and in no way will I need some crazy camera that does everything. But I'm looking to take some better photos. Mostly family action, some car, some wildlife/nature. Basically price depending and brand suggestions are what I'm looking for. I know a lot are going to say personal preference.

Here's my suggestion: Nikon d7000, 18-200mm f3.5, just for fun get the Holga Kitchen Sink kit. Also get a cheap 50mm f1.4 or f1.8.

This would be a nice combo to start. I just have a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm and a 35mm f1.8. Would be nice to have the zoom range of the 18-200mm though. Having a nice fast prime great. Out of the two lenses, I use the 35mm a lot more. The D40 was the cheaper Nikon when I got it a few years ago, but I've been pretty happy with it. I also bought an SB-400 speedlight.

I am a Canon guy. I keep trying to find a reason to get something better than my aging Rebel XT but it never fails me and 8 MP is still really quite good. I have 3 lenses 28-90mm, 90-300mm, and a Lens Baby plus a cheap 2x tele-converter for fun. The one thing I do like about the new DSLR's is the ability to shoot video.

i have a d90 and it's great but probably pricey for your needs..... the d7000 or d3100 is a great starter camera. but what ever you get, get a battery grip!

Been looking for a new camera for my wife, I think that the D3100 is best bang for buck, but I would love the added iso sensitivity of the d7000.

Nikon usa lists the d3100 at $699
                    d90 at $899
                    d7000 at $1199

I understand the d7000 is intended to replace the d90, but they plan on keeping the d90 in the market for another 6-9 months

I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

I have a vertical grip on mine too, totally changes the camera and the battery life is amazing.

personally i'd go buy a used d90 body.
the real money in photography is in the glass, the bodies are disposable.

you can find a used d90 kit for like $500 including starter glas
