  • What Sporty-Wagon would you buy?

Looking to buy some kind of sporty wagon, or possibly small SUV or large hatch before this winter. Leaning towards some kind of wagon because we have 2 large dogs and we need something we can truck 4 people out to the mountains in.

Suggestions? Euro and non-euro alike! Budget definitely sub-40k (even better is sub-30).

    EDIT:

Just want to clarify a few things here. Top priority is getting a car with low maintenance. Won't be modding or tuning the car. Needs to be MANUAL. Lastly, have to be able to find one with LESS THAN 25,000km ON THE ODO.

So a 10 year old car probably won't fit the bill. Thinking more like something < 3 years old.

      something with better maintenance ^

i'd say if you can swing it new b8 a4 avant

otherwise a b7 a4 avant (but the a4 is pretty small inside)

so i'd say try and find a V8 allroad or a b6 passat wagon. v8 allroad was US only but there are some floating around less maintenance than 2.7t and same motor as a b6/b7 s4

b6 passat is bigger than the a4 too.

I just bought a B6 Passat wagon and I have to say that I am in love with it. We just got back from an 800km road trip and it rides like a champ on the highway. I cant really speak for the winter performance since I just got it.

There are several that can be had in the sub-$20K range as well.

Lastly, have to be able to find one with LESS THAN 25,000km ON THE ODO. Needs to be at least as fast as a Mk4 GTI. (~200hp). Be nice if it had heated seats. US import is OK, I can do that.

I've looked for allroads in the past but they were SELDOM manual and most that you see have 200,000km on them, they have been discontinued too long?

We like our A4. 2.0T gets better mileage than my Golf.

I would suggest a Caddy CTS Wagon AWD and speedy 270-304hp V6 depending which motor 3.0L or 3.6L

But it isn't available in Manual, just a flappy paddle. But if you get the RWD model, you could do this.

Volvo V70R (2004 to 2006) or 3 series wagon (E90 2009 onwards). In the U.S, available in non-AWD and in a manual. Here is one in Minnesota but automatic. http://www.bmwofminnetonka.com/used/...befd7e1a44.htm

I like the BMW wagons a lot. Super clean.

Too bad it seems impossible to find an AWD Manual.

BMW manual sportwagons are really tough to find! Here is a picture of the V70R:
