    Need to replace pins on pedals before a race;
    Pedals are magnesium i think pins are steel, though they break like they are tin foil.

    they are SUPPOSED to thread in with an allen key, and come out the same way, though im having zero luck on that front.

    i know i can likely take some vice grip pliers to the longer ones to remove and replace, but there are a couple that have broken off or been bashed down to next to nothing so i cant get grip.

    Anyone know how i can remove. Drilling out is going to be tough to do based on the size, and i cant tap larger as i dont have larger thread pins nor know where to get some.

    Anyone able to help?

    pins are $10 for 30.....new pedals are $150. otherwise i would have just bought new pedals.

    That short, there isn't much you can do besides drilling it and a re-tap. The longer ones you can take pliers and take them out like you mentioned

      grind a flat into the top and use a flat blade screw driver. If that does not work, tap a small screw driver on the edge of the broken set screw and repeat until it comes out. Basically work the edge to drive it out.

          I second cutting a slot in the top that's what i used to do when people would loctite small set screws. You should be able to buy those socket head screws at any bolt supply place $10 for a box of 500 instead of 30

                I wouldn't grind down any more if you can avoid it. Just slit the top.

                    You are going to have never ending problems with bi-metallics threading together. I would drill and tap a little bit bigger hole and put a threaded steel insert into the pedal so you can then tread in your set screws. Only issue you would run into in that case is making sure there is enough metal on the pedal so install the insert.

                          You can but pedals that the studs thread in from the opposite side. Shimano hasn't figured that out to redesign their DT pedals yet. Seriously I'd just pick up some Kona wa wa's and sell these on pinkbike. IF you're racing you'd probably appreciate a thinner pedal which will help with pedal strikes too BTW. That all said, I'll be home tonight and you can borrow my dremmel or if you talk real nice I can bring it downtown tomorrow.

                            i hate the kona's, the only pedal i'd switch to would be the straightlines.

                            going to a pedal with inserts that go on from the back would just mean a post about how i've stripped the head off a tiny little screw that was packed with dirt and now i gotta figure out how to get it out. unfortunately none of the designs really work WELL

                            where in town are you? maybe i swing by tonite and give it a whirl

                              Drill and tap a second set of holes and just keep adding studs and grinding the old ones away.
