Re: Use of Language in ALL posts

My invitation to you still stands to explain a) what was wrong with a funny picture and this thread, and b) what you actually want out of this forum.

Whining, and i am going to call it that for a second, about what is going on and not proposing any kind of change or what you would like to see is no more helpful than DJ having a verbal orgasm with his keyboard. Simply saying "this sucks" gets no one anywhere.

Jeff had the right approach. Not calling him on his original post.

OK...this is what I'm seeing...humour, that not everyone appreciates...RANTS...that not everyone likes, appreciates, or will ignore...ALOT of useful EURO-AUTO info, photo's, part search and member resource, and people complaining about atleast one of the afore mentioned.
IDK...maybe a bit more tolerance, and or consideration could help resolve issues. Alot of the other sites I go to, are more or less to find things that I can't find here...this is a small community...but even with this "TIFF" going on...I'll still be here hitting the Whats new button every night.

Thanks for the benefit of the doubt, but I did call DJ on his post and he called me on doing it, so I started this thread.

My intent with this thread was to get the exact discussion going that it did, and I hope it continues.

I was going to just start this thread, and then sit back and read. But, I feel the need to stick my nose in it again.

What I'm seeing is the long term people saying, for the most part, that they like it the way it used to be. And the people who have joined over the past two or three years (I'm over-generalizing with this statement) all saying "what's wrong with how it is now?

So, what's wrong with a funny picture? Nothing. The "hurt feelings form", by itself, is funny. However, placed in the context of a discussion of how people feel about this site, where a LOT of people who have been sitting by silently have now chosen to step up and give their opinion, that same funny picture serves to minimize these very opinions. It becomes offensive. It says, "hey, quit your complaining, here's a form to file your hurt feelings".

THAT is where eurodrivers has changed. Four years ago, that didn't happen. That is why I started this thread.

I think Jeff about summed it up for me. Maybe part of it for me is I have been a part of this club for near 10 years and to see it go on with threads that just go on and on with couple swear words etc per post. Well that is until someone finally posts some manicorn picture and Ryan or Blair have to waste their time moderating something that really shouldn't need it. Then there are threads started for no good reason at all then to make fun of someone else advertising their skills or some other totally useless garbage. It is no wonder there are not many older people in the club anymore, most are tired of the incessant BS that seems to go on. Yes the forums are still great at times for help or borrowing of tools etc but for the most part the image is shows isn't going to attract to many new people and hence why I think the club has gone stagnant. Do I have a solution for it? Somewhat and it is for Blair only to decide his vision for how the club should go forward.

Re: Use of Language in ALL posts

As mentioned the feedback is appreciated and I can find agreement with both sides, and Jeff's summary is fairly accurate for the most part. However there is also a distinction between the online forums and the in-person meets and I strongly encourage anyone on the fence to step out to a meet before they pass judgement as the internet does strange things to peoples personalities. Also are the older members going away because they are too busy, have families now and less interest in the scene and do we need the survival of the younger kids to keep the club alive?

All that being said my current approach is going to be trying to get a handle on items and get things closer to perhaps where they used to be, but obviously I am not wanting this to be a police state with no jokes at all, but yes there is a time and place. The responsibility also lies with you all to help point out when you are unhappy (as you have) and contact me or report posts and threads so they can be cleaned up and any necessary actions taken.

Re: Use of Language in ALL posts

I'm replying because this post is obviously about me. And funny enough, jester also mentioned I'm not alone. Well guess what little guy? That's the majority of us. We use words (ie language as u say) to express our concerns. The reason these words exist are to stress emotion, concern, and emphasis. If you are some religious gods cock sucking 1800th century fuuk nut with a fear of technology, progression and creative communication, then I suggest you go else where.

I wouldn't even know of this post if it wasn't for Tyler showing me from across the table while we chill before dinner. Fact is, I and many of us are too busy with a regular life to care about a strong worded post. You can choose what to read. So ball the fuuk up and quit being a whiny princess. As you know by my extremely rare high iq, strong words do _not_ imply stupidity or uneducation. Im a prime of example of why strong language SHOULD be used.

Fact remains, you can choose what thread to read.

Reading one of my unusual titled threads is what you'd expect. Don't bother if you have a broom handle up you ass. Even through my emotional vulgarity, there are always valid remarks and educated observations. Limiting communication to specific words on an open discussion forum is ludacris and counter productive to it's purpose. For example, we are conversing now.....

And why? Because I enjoy swearing!

My objection really isn't to your swearing. To be frank, I couldn't give a **** if all you could say was ****. My objection is more or less to your rough treatment of the op, again it feels kind of Celebrity Apprenticey.

Also, everyone keeps saying that You have a choice what to read, if you don't like it beat it etc. This misses the point that that this is a car forum and not a "see how much ******** you can put up with before you just give up and delete your account" forum. It means that the lowest common denominator will eventually be all that remains. Any way, like you said we are conversing.
