  • Use of Language in ALL posts

I made a comment in another post in the "lounge" calling out the originating author on his continued and repeated use of profanities. This isn't just a one-post, one-poster problem.

Eurodrivers has changed over the past three or four years, in some ways for the better, in many ways for the worse.

New faces bring new ideas, and excellent knowledge about their cars as well as a host of other interesting topics. However, they also bring a questionable approach to how they post and what they say. Threads are often hijacked from useful posts to talk of parties, drinking, and conquests of a few of the participants in that particular thread. A re-build thread should be about the car, the process, and the skill. Not who should stick their johnson where, and who's wouldn't fit.

Maybe we need a new folder for topics called "inane banter" or something like that. At the very least, if there is a need to be inappropriate, label it "NSFW".

For the rest of the site, I'm asking that the moderators take a more active approach to moderating and:
    1) DELETE posts that use inappropriate or offensive language;
    2) Warn offenders when they are being inappropriate.
    3) BAN repeat offenders

Or, tell me I'm too "stuffy" and need to relax a bit.

    Either way....please discuss....
    Jeff

I moderate an MMA site, and we don't put up with half of what I've seen on here...although alot of it is FUNNY...it probably gives the wrong impression(s) to any visiters who have'nt joined!

As far as it goes, this is a car forum, were all adults and as much as it's an all ages forum, it's not likely youngins that don't have cars will even be on here. As far as I'm concerned, if you are on the internet, you pretty much know every profanity in the book. I understand the NSFW heading for pictures and videos, but if you have a boss that is standing over your shoulder making sure that the forums you frequent don't use any profanities then you have a problem.

You are just being too serious, I honestly had to go back and see how many profanities there were, I dont care, I just skip over them.

I think your just mad cause you never get invited to our crazy epic drinking parties when mattie always decides to sell something, being his car, his anal beads, or a butt banana.

I agree the base form of eurodrivers has gone to the pisser over the last couple years. Hence why I have next to nothing to do with with it outside the forum which I don't even frequent as much anymore.

Honestly i think that some language is fine. If it is used in the right context it can be used to more effectively convey ones point.

On the topic of thread jacking, i think it should be up to the OP to help moderate their own thread. If they feel that it's getting out of hand they should post something in that thread saying something along the lines of "Could we please focus on the topic in the thread, rather than cluttering up my thread". I have used this lots in the past and have gotten very good results and the threads usually turn out to be more informative and less arguing.

i'll talk to blair about making a 'ranting' section if need be

i don't mind cursing in threads myself but it depends on my mood and how much espresso i've had

oh and jacking.. if the OP msgs me i'm happy to delete posts or close the thread.. i've done this alot in the past with no issues.

              Have to agree -

You may have noticed that I don't post much anymore. Big reason is that I've found quite a few posts offensive and I just don't feel like this is my kind of board based on the language I see week on week.

I wasn't going to say anything... times change I guess...

It's definitely not as friendly and helpful as it once was. There are a lot of guys are in the same position as Kor that just don't bother anymore. It's a shame too, because a lot of those guys are the ones that made such a good resource for Euro owners in the first place.

I browsed this board for over a year before signing up. Now that I am signed up I hardly ever post I don't find this board to be worth to much time when it comes to posting.

That being said, everyone in this group that I have met in person have been wonderful. Very nice people, and genuine enthusiasts.

You two should join together and bargain collectively. It will probably go better.

just so im clear here are we talking about offensive words (the ones mom washed your mouth out with soap for) or offensive posts that are disrespectful.
frankly i could care less about the words, if you want to talk that way that is your issue, i'll judge you based on the words you use and act accordingly, but if its disrespect then thats a different story and the mods can address it as they see fit.

I feel it is a bit of both, offensive words, and offensive/disrespectful topics

In talking to a fellow at Coffee and Cars this weekend, I mentioned being a member on Eurodrivers, the gentleman responded that he had checked out the site, but the childish banter wasn't his cup of tea, kind of made me feel ashamed.
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

I personally don't care about the use of coarse language. But there are times when things get out of control in the forums. Personal attacks, I think, have no place here or any other place for that matter. It's just another way bullying.

As for calling for violence to be instigated on certain people in our country, there should be no place for it anywhere. Sorry DJ, I normally get a kick out of your posts, but that crosses the line. You never know if some mental case reads that and takes action of his own accord.

There are times when we have to take a step back and really think of how we express ourselves online.

Re: Use of Language in ALL posts

I don`t know, I just find it banter, I take none of it seriously or personally, as no one should. If someone reads a thread like DJ`s and takes it into his owns hands, well that`s that individuals problem. DJ wasn`t telling us to go out there literally kick some postal worker in the nuts, nor light their female counter parts on fire. He just speaks with a certain degree of hyperbole. The banter on this forum is very light and entertaining. Some forums have it much more severe.

Foul language is used, as foul language is slowly becoming more and more accepted in our culture, which instigates a chicken or the egg debate. Bullying, that is just sad. If you feel bullied as an adult on the internet, it may be best you reevaluate your relationship with the internet. This forum, has a core group of people, who attend the meets, and cruises whose banter extends from real life to an online arena.

The only real, consistent heated banter comes from Rondal and MisterT, which is always fun to watch.

In the end, this is a forum, an online place for people who have similar interests to share builds, information, funny videos, rant, and so on. No one is forcing anyone to read these things, no one is forcing people to write these things. Ignore it, laugh at it, move on from it.

This thread is a constant of the internet forum, every forum will encounter it eventually, some more than once.
