  • Cheapest way to ship wheels from USA

I know sweetgrass is best, but the drive from Edmonton and back is nasty.

If I get the guy to ship them to my door, which company is best to ship with in regards to brokerage and duties?

    Any suggestions? Experience?

Is it going to be crazy expensive when they arrive? Is sweetgrass really worth it for me?

I would say FedEX international. IIRC they airfreight it in, and it's cheaper than ground.

Sweetgrass... I just bought some Aristos in the winter, the shipper and I exhausted all forms of shipping to wits end trying to find an economical route. To no avail. Driving to the border saved myself $200 at least on just the wheels. I had a bunch of other stuff shipped there at the same time though to justify the day trip.

How much do you guys figure duties and brokerage would cost me if I had them shipped via USPS?

          Is sweetgrass a hassle?

I might need to make the trip.

How much are they worth? Are they either rim or tire made in the states? Sweetgrass is very easy, the border agents deal with us going across the border everyday so it's pretty lax, still a border but lax. My wheels were 650 and I had to pay 100 duty at the border.

The wheels are german and I think the rubbers are japanese?

The wheels are pricey. Do they charge duties based on the paypal receipt?

They just asked what they were worth. If they're new they might ask for a receipt. But nothin or me.

Careful on trying to get a used non-american made tire into the country! Sounds crazy but I almost had to have mine slashed at the border since they were used Kumho's. Claimed them as new to the broker and hoped no one looked. You can find the document in the link below for the regulations.

I dont have the info, but you can clear them through customs yourself via UPS/FedEx/whatever and save the brokerage fees... pretty simple paperwork IIRC. There was a write up on Beyond.

Just realized that the Sweetgrass shipping location is closed on weekends

The website had all sorts of pricing according to weight, but do they charge by the day? Or is it just one cost? The website wasn't very specific.

How much is your time worth? It's certainly not worth it to me to drive to sweetgrass and back to save $50-$75 bucks. Work a couple extra hours to offset the cost instead of wasting 10 hours driving.

I'm with Colin, to make it worth my while, I would need to have a huge shipment dropped down there, and for me it is only 5hrs driving
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

That's the thing, I have no idea how much I would be saving if I drive to Sweetgrass.

I keep hearing from people that the brokerage fees would be crazy expensive, but if it's only going to save me $100 - $200 I would rather have them shipped directly to my door.

Does anyone know for sure how much brokerage would cost for a big package such as wheels? Anyone with experience?

Brokerare is charged on value, not size. A $3500 diamond ring in an enevolope will have the same brokerage cost as wheels.

Using wwwthefinalcost.com proves to me it's not worth it. even if the wheels and tires are $3500 bucks you only save $73 in brokerage and $15 in disbursements. 10 hours of driving + border headaches for $90 bucks? I sure hope an hours of your time is worth more than $9.
