I have the nitro, its pretty fast. The fastest I have seen downloading a torrent is 8 MB/s.
torrents have a huge overhead and therefore the speed of your actual "file" will be slower than the connection speed. there is around 9MB of transfer, but the rest is in torrent protocol crap. it's a well designed application protocol for what it is, just sadly there is nothing else u can do about it to keep the torrent concept. torrent application protocol data grows exponentially with the transfer speed.
edit: also you're router may not be able to handle that many connections at once and maintain the available speeds. 8MB is great .. with news groups, you will definetly see 9MB+ on nitro
Yea my bandwidth monitor show that there is a lot of overhead. My router can handle it, Its a Gigabit router and I am running DD-WRT on it. I have uTorrent set up so it wont go over the 4000 IP connection cap of the router, also downloading to an SSD. I have gotten over 10 Mb/s downloading large files direct from websites but I don't think too many servers can upload that fast. The best thing about the nitro is the upload. Makes updating websites via FTP much quicker and you can maintain a torrent upload ratio much easier. I can upload a torrent at over 500 Kb/s.
On shaw extreme (before this supposed service upgrade) I hold steady at 19-20Mbps, spiking as high as 40Mbps (so holding around 2.3MB, spiking up to 5MB) when using news groups.
interested to see how it looks when I get home

what did you get? did u do a test? also try speedtest.shaw.ca
i'm curious of your numbers. almost makes my nitro useless VS the cost of extreme now haha
Ive done speedtests before (just off speedtest.net) and was getting very similar numbers to what I posted. And yeah, thats wired (I dont do wireless to my HTPC anymore, was running into too many issues)
What I based the numbers I mentioned off of is my newsgroup client logs. I didnt get a chance to download anything since the alleged speed boost but will be tonight.
