Realtime tracking, so everyone can see how fast we are going, and dj's robot can take pictures.

Layer the tracking with photo pins on google maps with our route.

This has already been down...It is called APRS. There are even iPhone apps that will do this for you using nothing but the app, the iPhone and your cell connection. They have a website so that you can see your position etc. If you are not into iPhones then you can buy a free standing kit for around $75 that does this but you need a radio license to do it legally.

OK, then, you buy an iphone and leave it on and in your car 100% of the time.......

I have this on the sienna and passat via the drone module with compustar. I can see where the cars are, start, unlock and open the remote doors (sienna), see the engine temp, etc. And if they get stollen incan remotely shut the car off and send the location of the car to the coppers.

no matter what, if someone wants your car they will take it. they dont' care about the condition of your car. broken window, who cares. broken steering wheel, who cares. they merely want the parts because the parts are worth more than the car.

the club is funny. ppl put it on, but all it says is "Steal me". 4 inches of a hacksaw blade is all that is needed to cut through the steering wheel and remove the club. they dont care about your car like you do. its condition means nothing to them.

Thieves like the club. Ever notice that annoying steering wheel lock? Well if there a club on the steering wheel all you need is a breaker bar and voila, steering wheel lock broken.

Thing is, I think you can buy a SIM based GPS tracker device online for $80-$90 now. Or some companies exist that let you pay a $20/month flat fee and they include the tracking device.

Soo... not sure its worth doing all the work to build out a DIY solution... I mean how much money will you really save....
