  • Driving to work this morning....

I was stopped at a light and looked over at the passenger seat and noticed that a bunch of stuff was on the seat. Mainly the contents of my centre console and glove box. WTF!!! So my question is how hard is it to break into a MKIV Jetta? I am thinking they used a Slim-Jim or something. I am sure I locked the car last night because my kid likes to stand in front of the car and do the Darth Vader thing like in the Passat commercial while I walk into the house.

Nothing visible. I am thinking a slim-jim. My neighbor's Honda Accord and Dodge Journey were broken into as well. On the up side my wife's Tiguan wasn't broken into. I'm thinking it has a more sophisticated lock system.

Shitty happening bro! Police here are starting to suggest leaving NOTHING in your car and opening the glove box/console and all that ****. Next they're going to tell me to leave my trunk open.

got a garage? could have been after opener. Garage opener plus address on your registration are a hot ticket for thieves.

does that year suffer from the issue where u can roll the windows down from the lock without the key? but then i guess u'd have to suspect they rolled them back up but still left the crap everywhere lol

Not likely a slim jim, not much to grab onto. Now just a flat bladed screwdriver on the other hand...

Screwdriver? He said there was no visible damage and trust me if they did the screwdriver route, there would be a fair amount of damage to the d/s lock cylinder.

It still puzzles me how they got into my TDI. However they did a number on my 2000 Durango which was parked at the end of the cul-de-sac. The passenger side key lock is f#cked. Can't use the key fob, power lock, key or even pushing down the lock mechanism in the door. F#ckers didn't even steal anything. Not even the 6 pairs of skis in the ski box!

Now my new question where can I get this fixed? Locksmith or truck shop? Can't go skiing otherwise :o(

look for damage in the weather stripping. i see it all the time at some rental companies i replace windshields for. most times they slip the slim jim in between the door and the weather seal but usually tear it or scratch the paint

dude they did this on the same night to both cars? what about your neighboors, they have any breakins too? thats very crazy and i'm sorry to hear it happened. they must have either been on foot or had a small vehicle (or live in the neighboorhood) becuase the skis are worth pawnshop money. they were probably looking for ipod or something.

i had one of my cars broken into. and i sitll don't know how they did it either. they took my change, but left everything else. even left my ecu programmer! which was nice of them...

Well, with the Mk4's from my understanding there is only so many frequencies that the remote has, and it is rare, but you can just unlock the car with another remote, but the immobilizer wouldn't allow the car to start if they were to try. Was it Ryan that had it happening out at his place?
