  • The power of water

This video shows the tsunami hitting an area of Japan, from a slow wash of water to half the city floating away.

    UNREAL how quick it happens

    damn thats insane!

on a side note when we were in thailand a few years ago.. one island off phuket that got hit super hard from that tsumani was pretty much rebuilt but the beaches still had garbage on them.. if you waded out in the bay during low tied and got really far out say oh football field length. there were parts of buildings in the water still that got drug back out.. so nuts!

This is truly a catastrophic event of proportions we may not see again for decades (hopefully) and it is horrible for the people of Japan but imagine if it hit a country that was not as prepared. You have to think that this quake moved the entire Honshu island 8 feet, that is mind blowing. I encourage people to donate to the Red Cross if possible as there is not much we can do but people do need our help.

Looking at some of these photos really makes me sick to my stomach
After visiting Japan a little over a year ago, it kills me to see the devastation and destruction there. The Japanese are such a polite, friendly, gentle nation. It really is horrible whats happend to them.

I applaud boston.com for buying these images and getting them out there. they always seem to have the best AP/Getty/etc coverage of major world events

Each link is approximately 50 photos

I am still planning to help boost the Japanese economy directly for over two weeks in June, just such an amazing country.

it really is. and its not like travelling elsewhere in the world. While it is one of the most developed countries in the world, for some reason when you go there everything seems so peaceful and organized. Even at 6am during Monday morning rush hour

i've never been to Japan but my wife has and she says they live life with such respect towards others and take pride in everything they do. Most countries with the same dense population are just rude. its a tragedy regardless of wich country this would happen too but just a thought.

we flew from Tokyo back to LA, and you get off the plane and you feel like you are in a prison. People in North America are so rude, loud, obnoxious and disrespectful.
We rode the subway during Monday rush hour in Tokyo, and while its packed, and people are trying to get somewhere quickly, they walk so quietly, they dont push, shove. Even when trying to cram onto the trains they just do it nicely. Was incredible to see.

Tokyo does big city like no where else, so organized, clean, safe and not too crazy all things considered. I have been twice before and will be going for the third time in June (maybe come home glowing though) and I have never had anything close to a bad or poor experience. We went to a Tokyo Giants game last time and the people next to us ending up giving half there snacks to us with out any fuss or us asking, and you should see how they deal with the garbage, you never leave anythings under your seat.
