Not the good glass kind that lets the light shine in, the f'n opperating system. That being said I need some help because for the love of god I cannot delete programs in windows 7! The netbook with the VCDS software I have is fulled right up and needs some space. I figured the easiest way to deal with this is to toss useless stuff like games, paint etc. This thing is only used for VCDS so doesn't have pictures or tunes etc. Any advice? User error? I have tried fiddling with the permissions on the programs blah blah but I simply cannot delete these stupid things. Only 3rd party programs show up in programs and features in control pannel. Any people smrter than me able to help?

Re: I Hate Windows
sorry, can't help but I would like to see what the fix to this problem is as well. I think it may relate to a problem my friend is having while trying to program in matlab in the windows 7 environment. I think something in the permissions makes some functions in our main code package freak out when values are changed.
GL with the fix, I know what you mean with the latest windows packages. I fired up my old laptop with XP on it and forgot how smooth xp was compared to vista, i've heard 7 is much better than vista, but it sounds like it is plagued with issues as wellLast edited by J-hop; 12-17-2010, 01:42 PM.

Re: I Hate Windows
I am ready to put my fist through this fucking thing. Why anyone would consciously choose windows except out of pure necessity is beyond me. I managed to delete my only reason for booting this thing up - the ross-tech software. The program manager listed two versions, an older one and a newer one... so logically I decided to uninstall the older one. This however just ended up uninstalling any and all versions and now I cannot install VCDS cause the install keeps crashing.
there is a "d' partition that is in fact the larger of the two partitions but what ever is on it is hidden. I think I need the geek squad. I wish we had on-site tech support at work.

Re: I Hate Windows
I paid the 79 bucks for a 1.5 terabyte drive. Do you really think the 300K PAINT application is a problem? Are you going to try and remove internet explorer too? You might save 2 megs! All the while I bet your temp internet folder is 500+ megs.
If you really want to remove some of that stuff you do it through add/remove windows components. But again, why bother for a few megs at best?
(I'd also wager I have spent more time on our 5 apples than I have on all our windows computers combined (100+).Last edited by Khyron; 12-17-2010, 06:37 PM.Geoff

With windows seven and in some ways vista it seems that they have started towards the apple way of doing things and setting up menus, and it makes no sense to me lol!!Last edited by J-hop; 12-17-2010, 07:15 PM.

Re: I Hate Windows
I just don't see the point. People do weird/crazy **** to windows then ***** when it doesn't work. A full 7 install has a smaller memory footprint than XP and takes about 12G disk space. If you're that close to threshold, you should pony up the 100 bucks for a new/huge drive or 600 for a new laptop rather than try and scratch at best 1G of space (which you're killing performance if you're running 90% of capacity).
That said, JPO you can try and go to disk manager (right click my compuer and manage, then pick disk management), convert C to a dynamic disk (might have to reboot but doesn't affect the drive or the programs) then expand it using the space from D. Or just format D and make it a data drive.Geoff

Re: I Hate Windows
It's probably a restore partition from dell/hp whoever - not needed assuming you have a windows disk somewhere.
And if you can't see it in disk manager, it doesn't exist. All space, even unpartitioned dead space should show up there.Geoff
