where to get large diameter heat-shrink tubing

This is about as off topic as it gets...

I'm looking for large diameter heat-shrink tubing. It needs to be about 1 1/8" in diameter after it's shrunk.

In case anyone is wondering, it's to wrap part of the spring in my mountain bike's front fork so it's not making a funny noise when it rubs the stanchions.

Even Active might have it, they have some 3 foot pieces in larger sizes I think.

come to the bike shop i work at (pure cycle). we have heat shrink tubing made exactly for this. ill give you a piece

MRO or Active will have it in 4ft lengths, get the thicker walled glue filled stuff.

Thanks Jason. Active had a huge 4' length of it for $8. When I'm done, you're welcome to have some Stefan.

To Martin13, thanks for the offer, but I'd probably use almost $8 in gas to get that far South. I'm in the market for a road/cross bike in the spring I'll make the trip down there to check out your shop.

fox 40? I assume. I have seen both an old tube used, and saran wrap.

For the DJ check inside, I have seen (mine included) with a wrap already installed, it just slipped down.

Actually a Marz 66. I thought there was a problem with one of the dampers but was told it's most likely one of the springs so I'll give it a shot. I haven't insulated and heated the garage at my new place yet so it will probably have to wait until spring. It was bad enough swapping to winter tires last night with gloves on and very cold tools.

Tried the heat shrink and turns out it was too thick after heating it to clear the inside of the stanchions. I'll try an cut section of old tube, maybe one of those skinny ones from my commuter. Did you want to try some of this heat shrink Stefan? I still have like 3 1/2 feet of the stuff and no use for it.

Yeah use like a 20-30C bike tube. I don't even notice it when riding, I only ever hear it when people are parking lot testing ****.

On my DJ3 I took the factory spacer out of the fork and made a new one that was about 2-3mm longer. That made sure the spring was in contact with the seat. Solved the problem of people pushing on my fork saying "Its broken, listen".

I used PVC pipe, then got bored and used a ream and made it match the thickness of the plastic OEM pipe.

The tube itself was too thick? if you got the normal 2:1 non glue heatshrink you are not going to get it any thinner. Keep the heatshrink, we might need it when we fix your rear wiper problem.
