Hyundai Car Help

A friend of mine drives a Hyundai and is having trouble with the clutch. A Hyundai stealership quoted her $2000 to replace and fix the clutch(!).
Can anyone recommend a garage for Hyundai's where she may get a secondary quote as the first seems slightly dodgy....

any service shop should be able to do a clutch job.

bert and jacks? Paul will fix anything I think. Got a quote for some radiator work on a toyota a while back and it was miles better than the dealer.

Yeah any service shop. I'm surprised the stealership quoted 2000 for a Hyundai. The GLI I almost bought had a clutch service and it was like.. 1100. Sounds seriously shadey. Drive her Hyundai in and ask for a quote yourself, as a man. I bet it's more like 1100.

I though of Bert and Jacks too but not 100% sure if they did non European makes. I forwarded their number to her.
My friend told me that the dealership said its a machined part thats associated with the clutch. They gave her a guesstimate of $2000. When she told me this (as well as me telling her another reason to drive a dub) I told her take it to another shop, preferably specialist to find exactly what is wrong with the car as the quote is a bit dodgy.... will see what happens...

(for $2000) they probably wanted to top off the blinker fluid also.

dont forget to replace the muffler bearings while you're in there, and to check the flux capacitor is still working as it should

lol. my buddies wife got hosed on something like muffler bearings. he went down there the next day, refused to give the money back. 200 in labour or something, so not worth small claims.

only machined part i can think of is the flywheel, you should have this done everytime you replace the clutch but it doesn't cost much, I think I had mine done at alberta chrome and grind for under $100 although it was a few years ago so I really can't remember the exact price.

The price quote does seem high, only way I could see it being that high is if they had to remove the engine and trans to get at the clutch, but that is unlikely.

i just had a clutch put in my winter saab 900. transmission has to come out to do it the clutch kit was $650 machined the flywheel. $1200 all in, cant see why it would be 2grand to do a hyundai.

2g's, isn't that half the price of a new car from these guys?

Well before you say a dub is so cheap might want to actually look at prices. 2000 Jetta TDi, OEM flywheel and clutch kit is about $1100 from autopartsway.ca. Its not the updated VR6 setup, but this is the oem dual mass setup still.

Put in 8 hours of labour at $100 an hour, your dub just cost close to that Hyundai.

The difference is for the Hyundai a repair at that price almost makes you wonder if its just time for a new car. Typically though Dubs are worth more and people don't love costs like this but are more willing to pay it.

diesel must be different, for the 24v VR ECS sells oem kits for ~360 USD, stage one for 728 and stage 3 for 850.


Trans will have to come off for any clutch job on any car (as far as i know!), I would get a quote from a regular shop, midas did the clutch on my buddies golf for $900 a while back, so if your looking for a cheap alternative try a shop like that

Her car is a 2003 Tiburon. I agree with the statement that it would cost the around the same for a dub. I only recommended her to get a dub is that I think Hyundai's are plain ugly...
