Seriously I wouldn't be surprised if Race city is forced to close, the motorsport community whines and complains but hasn't take any action towards keeping it open (that i've seen at least), other than a useless online petition and approaching aldermen which in the end doesn't mean anything if you don't have public awareness. The "motorsport community" in calgary is so small (likely less than 1% of calgary's population), so it takes a lot more than a petition to make ones voice heard, no alderman wants to stick their neck out for a group so small that no one really gives a damn about
you clearly have NO idea what has been going on by the motorsport community behind the scenes to keep this track open and in calgary.

you're just making yourself sound ignorant

      Re: Election Day In Calgary

no I know what is going on, but the thing is the motorsport community is so small here that no one really gives a damn, why haven't I heard the news reports? why haven't I seen articles printed in the paper? where are the people out on the streets handing out information about what is going on? why are car clubs not posting up at the U of C where tens of thousands of students are packed into a small area and it would be easy to raise awareness? why when you ask people that have never been to Race city about race city closing do they look at you with a blank stare and not know what you're talking about?

The problem IS ignorance, It can't be always "behind the scenes", "behind the scenes" activity does next to nothing when you are dealing with a matter that should be a public decision, you can't expect anything to happen if the public isn't backing you that would be ridiculous.

But this is really an argument for another thread. The only threads i've seen on here are complaining about it but no one has taken any action. All i've heard is 'someone' is doing this 'someone is working with this alderman' etc, but those 'somones' are the same 10% of the motorsport community over and over again, and that is 10% of a very very small pot. If you (in general not you specifically) think you've done your part by taking 10seconds to sign an online petition that means very little then you haven't done squat. Maybe its time people start taking a more active role.

wasn't that over a year ago?

edit: I should also say I am not trying to downplay the effort a small group of individuals are putting in to try to save race city from being shut down, but I am rather sick of seeing threads pop up where people whine and complain about what likely will happen to race city and talk about how they are going to show up at the mayor's door if it happens, but then sit on their butt and do absolutely nothing about it, you can't expect the few people that are trying to make a difference do it all on their own right? They are doing some of the important work like approaching alderman etc BUT the work that is going to make the biggest difference is to raise public awareness, but that requires the commitment of a vast majority of the motorsports community to do, it just can't be done by a small group. I always hear about the "motorsport community" taking action but in reality its a handful of people.....

yes it was, and it is a huge reason for why race city is open, we almost shut down a lot of roads in the city cause there were so many people trying to get to one spot.
