Blair!
Indo rules! Im jealous youre going to Komodo. You going to Bali ? Gilli?
Well part of the reason for moving is to have a better base for travel, plus much more reasonable too, can get to Bali and back for not much more than $100 so will be trying to get as many places as possible, but Komodo is a must for me.

During my time in Singapore I paid $180,000 for a Saab 93 back in 99. Cars are expensive to own and to run. Housing was also very expensive... my house was $9,500 a month and it wasn't that great. A case of beer back then was about $65... a pint in a bar was about $10. Ten years later I am sure it's gone up. Fun and safe place to live. I enjoyed every minute.
Yes those are the 3 most expensive things there for sure, cars, homes and booze. I am going to pass on the car and not the biggest drinker so not worried about those two, but $9,500 for rent is a lot. In my looking around you can get a very swank place for that kind of money however I will not be spending near that much depending on the salary I start out with.

we have friends that are teachers that live in bangkok they have a 3400sqft penthouse apartment and thier mortgage is 400US/month i didn't realize malaysia cost so much more
The place is full of hookers. On Orchard Road ask anyone for the "four floors of whores".... well worth the view if nothing else. Prostitution in Singapore is as bad as anywhere, it's just the gov't insists it takes place in a controlled environment... and you don't mention it to anyone.
