My brother in law has a new dodge ram and it is awesome. It's fast, huge, lux, looks good and is thie nicestest riding pickup I have driven.

Tundra is not a truck. :P

New F150 is pretty awesome, but if your hunting used I'd look at an 08 Silverado.

I like the interiors of Chevys and GMCs more but the exteriors of Fords more

                That being said ive owned a 99 F150, 01 Chevy 1500, 00 GMC 3500 and a 06 F350.

Loving the F350 so far, the Lariat package is great to have.

the main reason i'll be buying is to haul tools and supplies. i'm a electrician, driving the gti just isn't working out anymore.

other than that i need leather, sunroof and 4 doors. right now the 2007 and up ford f150 fx4 has my eye.

                    Re: What pickup??

I would go with a GM or a Tundra.
F150's are seriously lacking on grunt and the gas pedal is way too sensitive at tip in.
The Steering on the Dodges is quite scary at anything over 80k.
                    Over the last few years I have had a lot of trucks; '91 F250, '94 F150, '01 GMC Sierra 1500, '00 Tundra, '04 GMC Canyon, '06 F150 Supercrew, '02 Chev Silverado 1500, '77 F250, '07 Ram MegaCab, '94 GMC 1500 & a '91 GMC S15 - all 4x4's except for the F250's.
The F150 had an intake, spacer, exhaust and various programmers to give it more go, but it was still lacking in low down grunt. The GM's and the Tundra have been by far the most reliable and satisfying to drive.
All this being said the F150 is the only half ton crew cab that you can get with a bed longer than 5 and a half feet.

the number of failures my friends 350 has had is ridiculous and its only two years old, another friend has a fleet of trucks for his business and he says he has saved huge on repairs by switching to Dodge from Ford.

Personally ive never had one but thought id pass on the comments

you actually want the box moving independant of the cab.
if they move together if you have heavy weight in the back it will cause disruption and an uncomfortable ride and drive in the cab.

                          Re: What pickup??

I worked last summer for a rental company and here is my take:

Chevys (silverado, seirra etc): nice and smooth drive, didn't need much servicing, interior quality is garbage though and after a few vaccums the seats develop a weird fuzz to them that you would have to cut off, stains also don't come out of the seats very easily, and the interior plastic has a very cheap feel to it. All around decent trucks but I never felt like they lived up to their price.

Fords, I am usually on the fence about ford trucks, but the new f150s are amazing trucks, very smooth ride, quality interiors, durable, good warranties, when you fold the back bench seat up you have loads of room to put stuff. decently quick trucks, very nice steering feel. All around a great package.

Dodges were a huge let down, chrome bumpers rust after one winter, quality control is bad, cheap feeling interiors, seemed to need servicing more than the other brands of trucks, very rough ride, as mentioned by jonnie5 at high speeds the steering doesn't feel right. Transmission shift points are badly placed, ex: put the tail end of one of our hemis out merging from blackfoot to glenmore because it downshifted WAAAY too late and reved to over 5 grand (didn't even have the pedal to the floor).
Only good thing I have to say about the dodges is the hemi is one quick truck.

going to the dealer tuesday to see what they can do if i bought a new one. i went today and snooped around abit more. i really like the look of the dodge, i don't mind the ford. i would happily take either at the right price.

on a side note i'm against leasing, but i feel leasing a truck might not be a bad move?? thoughts??

                              Re: What pickup??

I want a Cummins motor, ford Body, with a chevy trans and driveline.

We have two, had 4 ford F250 FX4 4doors with longer boxes can't remember the length, but they were longer than 5ft.

We drive the **** out of those things. Our commissioning guy especially and he drives them most. Down well service roads, and what not. They have held up amazingly well. We haven't had a single real problem with them. During the economic collapse ford came and said they no longer were going to do leasing, so we either had to buy our trucks out, or give them back. So we gave back two and bought the two worst as they were the cheapest, and they are still kicking. The bodies are pretty beat, but whatever, they still go forward and hold our built in toolboxes.

We picked up a Tundra immediately following that. It is sick, I find the throttle far to sensitive. I really liked how it handled. But I found it bigger than it needed to be. I find all of the modern trucks way bigger than they need to be.

The tundra hit a deer at highway speeds. From the photos, I thought it was a goner. But the front end was so much plastic, it just looked way worse than it actually was. But why have all that extra plastic? To look bigger amongst domestic trucks?
