  • Radar Dectectors?

What ones do you guys have? how do you find they work? What did they cost? and can they be hardwire'd into a b6 a4?(instead of that lighter plug in b.s. for a more clean look cause im not paying like 1500 for an "installed stealth system")

I think if you want more stealth, the Beltronics STI-R is one of the ultimate, with added option of laser jammers that are compatible.

I got a whistler xtr something, saved me a whole whack of times, works good, gets some interference, if you know your wiring it could easily be hard wired, it was like $45 shipped from somewhere in the states.

            Re: Radar Dectectors?

the beltronics unit doesn't provide much more in the way of stealth. to install it properly you still need the receivers mounted as high on the car as possible, so the windshield up near the mirror.
once you get your head around that part, you see you can fit the v1 up there just as easily. people seem to think they can hide the beltronics unit, but dont realize by hiding it they also dminish how effective it is.

With the V1 you get a better detector than the beltronics. If you want laser jammers, there are also better jammers on the market than the beltronics ones.

the lidatek system is still hands down the best for laser jamming, if you can find it.

                Re: Radar Dectectors?

The STI-R is a very stealth unit, as well as the STI. You have confused yourself with the model. The STI is the one that mounts on the windsheild, which is probably why you wouldn't consider it "stealth", the STI-R mounts its radar reciever behind the front bumper and the displays can be concealed anywhere in the vehicle, very stealth.

The STI-R is a remote mount unit with nothing on the windsheild, very stealth install and very stealth technology to back it up (which is also shared in the STI). And Yes it is a very good unit, I can't even count how many we have sold and how many people come back within a few days and say you have saved my life! I just had another customer come back yesterday and say the exact same words . Problem being the STI-R and the RX75 have both been discontinued by Beltronics :(, only left with the STI windsheild mount if stealth is a feature you want.

Beltronics and V1 technology is very close, range is very close, except you cannot disable any bands on your V1 but it has direction arrows for the radar signal so you know where it is coming from (much better than Cobra's before someone else steps in and says that). The advantage with the Beltronics unit is that you can disable X and K band and get rid of all the anonying faults if you don't leave the city. If you do leave the city you should leave K band enabled as RCMP are still using it. The GX65 from Beltronics has the ability to mark X and K band falses and prevent the falses from coming back on without disabiling the band in full which is a neat feature to go along with the GPS locater for Red/Green light camera's.

I personally run the Beltronics RX65, no GPS and no Stealth and it works great! All Beltronics/Escort/V1 can be hardwired, just make sure it's someone who knows the vehicle well.

Blinder makes the best laser jammers hands down, the new M27 is twice as powerful as the last M25 which blew other laser jammers out of the water when it came out, still waiting on some newer test results with the M27. They have 2 and 4 head units for larger vehicles as well as both units have "Parking Assist" so if you have someone in a clean white car inquiring about the black boxes in the front of your vehicle, just get him to wave his hand in front of them in park assist mode. If you are a speeder in the city, you need a laser jamer almost more than a radar detector.

                  Re: Radar Dectectors?

I've got an older beltronics one that sits on the dash. Ran the wire along the bottom of the windshield and down in to the fuse panel. Works well. I don't think there is a whole lot of difference in response in relation to height, as long as you aren't obstructing the detector. In theory, high is better for radar and low is better for laser (because laser is narrow and the cop is supposed to be aiming low on your car). I figure its more important that it is somewhere that it won't distract you. Radar is such a wide, reflective wave; You will pick it up high or low. It likely does get a better response to radar mounted high, but they are so sensitive, and the cop is already a mile away when it starts to beep. A few feet extra range won't make much difference.

The sun is hard on a dash mount though if you leave it out while parked... I get overheat errors if I forget it while parked in the 25°+ sun.

I've had mine for about 10 years and it still works and works VERY well. I've had the Escorts and BelTronics before I went to the V1 and they only lasted about 2-3 years before packing it in. I'm a V1 customer for as long as I drive!

I thought that the laser jammers were illegal here?

It isn't directly illegal, I'm fairly certain. But I'm sure they could get you indirectly, like interfering with a police operation, or something like that.

what sucks is new cars like audi's with side assist use K band POP mode, so if you have one of those cars and radar you have to turn POP mode off on your radar making it unable to detect instant on. or if you don't and just get passed by a Q7 or new A4 with it you will get lots of false positive's

from youtube i also learned the blinder m27 seems pretty good!
