        Re: bad Calgary Drivers

        My favorites are:

        1) People who slow down when merging, drives me nuts and is dangerous because it makes everyone in faster moving traffic have to brake.
        2) People who fail to use signal lights, I almost got side swiped because of passing someone who thought they could just move in to my lane. Once they saw me, I went forward and then made a bunch of left/right signal motions to try to indicate to her to use them. 15 seconds later she was ahead of me whipping through lanes with no signal. *GAH*

                    Re: bad Calgary Drivers

This past Thursday I was going down to visit some friends in Copperfield(SE). I was coming down McKenize Lake Blvd to the round about(traffic circle for others). I was getting ready to go and this women came from the inside lane to the outside, cutting me off. Then to finish it off she went on the right hand side of the road on the street to me right. I had to slam on my brakes from hitting her, I wasn't impressed to say the least. Not even a week with the car I was almost in an accident from another bad driver in this city. I think that people need to be tested in how to use a round about. I've been in more than one close call on that road, I've seen others almost get taken out aswell.

Wait, was this a dual lane traffic circle? In which case, she had the right of way if she was in the inside of the circle, you would have been at fault. See http://www.calgaryarea.com/se/mckenz...le/traffic.htm for a picture. . .

                        Re: bad Calgary Drivers

If I know how these work the inside person has to take the left lane when they exit the circle just as they entered it. They can exit at any one of the exits they want while the outside lane has to exit at the next cutoff. As long as this is followed the two sets of drivers should never have any conflicts, its typically the outside lane that does more then one exit and causes the problems.

That picture above those is how it is suppose to be, and very soon once the circle gets put in at Glenmore and 37th should be an accident haven.

The thing was the women didn't stay in the inside lane. If there was someone in the right lane beside me they would have gotten take out. She was suppose to stay on the inside lane and go into the left lane on the other side of the traffic circle, not cut into the right hand lane. You're not suppose to go in the outside lane all the way around a traffic circle.

This whole traffic circle or round-a-bout works great in the UK, because the drivers, or most of them, are skilled and have been around them there whole life. Trying to incorporate traffic circles in Calgary=. I will be avoding the idiots all together, especially during rush hours!!

I lived in McKenzie Towne for a number of years and I saw everything in that traffic circle, even a person going the wrong direction, but still think it is better than having to wait at lights there, keeps the flow moving.

I am not sure why people are so afraid of turning on their lights when the weather is poor, oh I forgot DRLs do it all for you, well actually in some cars they don't!

                                Re: bad Calgary Drivers

I vote Edmonton drivers are worse.

Having lived in both and rode my bike in both.

I have been hit twice in Calgary as a cyclist. But those I would say were partially my fault, I probably could have avoided it, but I was relying upon the drivers to do their job.

In Edmonton I was hit twice, and came extremely close to a third one, which would have ended very poorly. Once going along and someone turned left and just didn't see me, and tagged my rear wheel.

I was trying to change lanes and I had to turn left and I was in the far right, so I kicked up my speed and this dick who was behind me, saw my signal and just sped up. Then proceeded to match my speed, slowing/accelerating to block me, to which I got fed up with and hammered on his window causing him to slow enough for me to get past, but as I passed he popped forward, again hitting my rear wheel knocking me to the ground.

Then riding home from school, I had my T-square in my bag, with the tip just hanging out, but it wasn't protruding beyond my shoulder by more than an inch or so. This dumb *****, drove past me so close that I left a scratch from the very front of her fender all the way to her rear quarter, she was so close that her mirror clipped my bars as she passed, knocking me into/over the curb. Which I believe if I wasn't an experienced cyclist that would have knocked me to the ground and possibly been run over by her rear wheels.

She stopped to yell at me, after nearly killing me.
