the issue at the moment isn't in fact flat ground, this is of course calgary....

the issue is controlling light. lengthen the shutter speed to 1/2 second or even 1/3 second and you start getting too much ambient in, even with closed down aperture to f25 and EV to -5 and ISO 100. Those settings basically give you the darkest settings, but the longer shutter speed still lets in too much light.

i either need darker skies, ie. sunset or past, or a ND filter to knock some stops off and allow me to shoot in normal light with longer shutter speeds

could go to a mall like say market mall, I am not sure what time the entrance to the underground parking closes (i think i've gotten down there at about 8:50 (mall closes at nine). Then you could walk around the mall until after 9 and the underground parking is usually completely empty because people that work in the mall aren't supposed to park down there.

Edit: also I think the doors (to get in) lock automatically as I've never seen security down there after hours,

also Northland mall has a fairly large covered parking area which is not really patrolled very well

That Market Mall underground parking looks too sketchy.
I mean the way it angles down then flattens seems to be a splitter killer.
            Know what I mean.

rondal... I know what you mean mang.
You a photo wiz so I reckon you will figure that out.
I was going to say that maybe an almost rainy day like, much like today could do the trick or even a parking lot in the evening is also an option.

A reason you want so long? Perhaps shorten her up and use a wide angel lense?

Hey, what about sait's new parkade?

im using a wide angle @10mm....what else would i use a macro lens?

you go long so that you can get perspective and so it doesnt look like every other rig shot where all you can see if 3/4 of the car cause the person didn't buy a long enough boom.

i havent seen SAIT's new parkades

and look how much better that would be if you could see not only the car, but whats going on around it.

                      like i said....perspective.

                          Exactly this...

Here are some 2009 rigged shots of Velvy by Mr. Widling...
The pole used was pretty darn long.
                          Produced some amazing shots.
