Notice of Conviction - received in mail

I got this thing in the mail which says I've been convicted. The date of the alleged offense was Feb 5th, and it says the Act/Charge is Municipal Bylaw F/T Display Permit, whatever that means. It also says that I was convicted in my absence because a response to the Offense Notice was not received.

This is complete horseshit.

I received no ticket on that date. I received no Offense Notice. This is the first I've heard of it. Just a notice in the mail to pay up, sucker.

According to what I could find on the web, you have to contact Calgary Traffic to request a copy of the original ticket issued. But you can't phone them. You have to either go in (I don't have time for this) or fax them. I've faxed them 3 times in the past two weeks, including a copy of this Notice of Conviction, plus all relevant info, asking for a copy of the original ticket. No response.

I don't even know what the alleged offense is. Fuk those guys. There's no way I'm going to pay for something that I don't know what it is.

Anybody else go through this?

He didnt display a parking permit in a desgnated area.. so it a parking ticket.

ahh so you parked somewhere IE.. behind 17th ave in the neighbourhoods that require tags and you didn't have one.

Pay attention, Skippy.

I'm mad because I didn't get a ticket on my car on the day. I'm mad because I didn't get the so-called Offense Notice. This one informs me that I missed my opportunity to go to court and have accordingly been convicted. Yet this is the first I've heard of it.

I'm also mad that I've faxed my request for a copy of the original ticket three times with no response.

yah this is the same situation that my other thread was about. a magical "you have been convicted" letter shows up, but nothing prior.

it feels real crappy when you get the letter and it has the HUGE bold words "CONVICTION NOTICE" on it. i feel your pain dude, the money isn't the issue, it's how stupid the system is.

if you think about it, it happens often. and most people say "it's not worth fighting". but, in the meantime the city is collecting lots of money from this scam. the city employees obviously aren't doing their job correcting, and the ridiculous time-consuming process of resolving the issue is preventing people from fighting it.

Actually, you would be surprised how easy it is to have a parking ticket cleared. Ive done it before. No hassels. it was with impark downtown too.
I guess it all depends on your situation too though.

Impark is a company, not the City.

The city parking tickets will stop your from re-registering and they will back date with interest, the whole works.

Impark is a company with no knowledge of your whereabouts or anything. They can't scan your plate and find out the car model, if it's debadged, it'll just have your make on it. It is very easy to clear an impark parking ticket - you don't pay it. (However they can tow you from their lot)

a guy at work was on his way to vegas two years ago and got turned back at the gate as there was a warrant on him for a ticket he hadnt payed and it had gone to court, convicted and he hadnt payed that = criminal ! took him nearly two years to get it taken off his record !

Or your cup size if you live in Vancouver. I've seen tickets half written get thrown out. Cops here are sleazy.

I faxed Calgary Traffic at 403.297.2220 three separate times over two weeks requesting a copy of the original ticket issued. Today (6 days after the last request was faxed) I received the following email:

I would like to point out at this time that no ticket was ever left on the vehicle in question on the date stated. Canadian citizens are afforded the right to know why they are being charged for any alleged crime or offense. Given this situation, it seems unconstitutional to require me to pay a fee in order to learn the nature of the alleged offense.
