watering your lawn religiously is bad for the environment. think green, people.

Like these kinds of green people? will they hurt us?

Either way, i'm not sparing any water on my lawn. A pretty yard is more important than a healthy environment!!!

Watering your lawn = more growth = more mowing. Just keep it alive....

i'll turn the sprinkler on for 15 minutes every evening at 11:00 PM starting this weekend then.

i didn't rake this year either ryan. i did the same thing as you. lowered the lawnmower with a bag. lazy but it's what i've always done.

my house is older so the grass is old. i have considered having new grass put in. but it's a lot of work and i'm not home in the summers, so it doesn't bother me too much. maybe this year i should consider planting some grass seed to mix with the older grass. hmmm!

I heard Scotts Turf Builder is one of the best out there now.

And for flowers, I heard that this stuff is great!!!

Since we have power raked our yard, I have watered our grass for only about 15-20 mins as well late in the evening. With Green drop coming out soon, should be much better as well. I hate yellow looking grass. lol.

A note on lawn watering. You want to give your lawn a heavy watering but less frequently. This encouraged the lawn to put down deeper roots and will make it more drought resistant. A general rule of thumb is an inch of water per week. Throw a frisbee on the lawn and when it's full turn off the sprinkler. It's also best to water in the early early morning so the water can soak in before it evaporates when the temperature is warmer. Watering in the evening has the same effect, only it increases the chance of fungus growth and some pests (snails for one) enjoying the cooler temperatures, cover of night, and wet slippery foliage to eat.

I've used these guys for their organic top dressing which works wonders on an older lawn in need of some TLC.

yea only evening or early morning watering is good.. mid afternoon=waste

well my yard is all 3 year old sod now but its all grown in and looks great but what i've done last year was toss handfuls of seed at random to aid in growth and this year fertilizer so should be wicked looking come summer

dog wizz in the back yard doesn't look great but its not terrible.. the seed/fertilizer work wonders here

Are you kidding? I love yard work. Sunshine and fresh air. Nothing beats spending the day outside! Well? Maybe somethings do but then this thread will turn luunta.

I think it is relaxing and sitting out with ur friends enjoying a cold one (or 10) after is pretty rewarding. I'll have to have a few of u over for a backyard fire some night before I leave foe the cottage.

It's the year for a new BBQ though. The one I have is really old and I have trouble letting it go. I keep rebuilding it when the parts die of. It's one of those cast iron shells. Really keeps the heat in. Great for steaks. But I get laughed at by my friends for having such an oldie mc old face luring around.
