There is a long story behind all of this but more or less my vehicle was hit well parked . The police were called and a collision report was filled out... more or less i have form that puts 100% responsibility on the other person and his insurance. I don't have collision coverage and thus have to deal with this on my own. Its been almost 2 weeks now and have not had my vehicle looked at by an adjuster, my car is a 1991 Jetta and most likely will be written off. I am looking for some information regarding my rights, what they are required to do etc etc. I have not been able to find any documentation on gov sites so any help would be great.

    Re: Insurance help

if you're not at fault i dont know why you would be on the hook for anything.
can you not take it to an adjustor and see what the result is? if they are going to write it off, they'll write it off. Regardless of whether you have collision or not

        Re: Insurance help

Like I said there is a long story behind this but its been 2 weeks now. My car can not be driven because of a broken turn signal, the insurance adjuster is on vacation and I have been told they will only pay for a rental vehicle well my car is being fixed. My car is currently not being fixed because it has not been seen by an adjuster and thus I do not have a rental car... its become a major pain in the a$s.

          Re: Insurance help

what so the company doesn't have another adjustor? so every accident that happens while someone is away has to wait.
i'd call BS and say you want your car seen immediatly.

              truth.

but ICBC would never let you run no collision in the first place, and you dont have to deal with multiple insurance companies dealing with each other.
so in some ways it can be slightly less painful.

              but what ICBC charges....stupid

I agree that is BS, tell them to give you a rental till their doushebag gets back from vacation then.
That being said I didn't have collision on my old car when I lived in BC but maybe it has changed since then. My insurance was also cheaper then it was when I moved to Calgary.

                  Re: Insurance help

So a 3rd party appraiser came to view my car today, he told me they would devalue my vehicle because there was hail damage… when I bought the car I never remember seeing the hail damage that he pointed out to me. So more or less what they are saying is that if I want to collect on the hail damage I have to go through my own insurance company.

                    Re: Insurance help

i'd push back on the adjustor. never take their first number or thing they say as godsend. they are paid to do one thing, limit the liability of the insurance company they are contracted by.

how bad is the hail damage? is it even noticeable?

I did not notice it until he pointed it out.

                          Re: Insurance help

The adjuster told me that my Jetta could be fixed after it was t-boned. I laughed and asked him what glue he was on. I was out a car for 3 days, so that meant 3 days I couldn't go to work. The only reason I got back to work after 3 days is because I found a smoking good deal on a Jetta an hour after I had my accident when I was looking on Kijijji looking at what my car might be worth. The adjusted didn't think it would be worth more than $3000 because I had some bumper damage that was there prior to the accident. I told the insurance company that it was true, but I couldn't replace a 98 Jetta TDI for less than $6000 with the km's it had. They ended up giving me $5500 + 3 days salary for the work I missed. They weren't going to give me my 3 days salary so I showed up and said I wasn't leaving till I talked to the boss and got a check from him for 3 days salary. It all worked out for me, but it might be worth going in and talking to someone in person. Over the phone **** never works, in person is always best.
