Also if the COP did walk out if front of you and you were forced to slam on your brakes, then he was obviously making a point that, hey maybe checking your surroundings next time for a) speed signs, b) COP sitting in the open with a radar gun would be a good idea? chances are he could have jumped out of the way if he felt in danger, and likely your adrenalin kicked in so you are remembering things much more vividly than they actually happened (no offense, i've been there).

I don't agree about this. Sorry but it seems a lot of cops figure people should slam on their breaks to stop for a traffic cop. I see it a lot where the cop is hiding behind a pole or sign with his radar gun peeking out beside so no one sees him until he nearly dives out on the road with his hands out to stop. I work near a regular speed trap and see it often enough to think it's training or hiring practice to have no common sense.

Even recently there was an article about the cop who Nearly got clipped trying to pull over a female speeder and the court even found the cop at fault.

I agree the cop has to justify the position with tickets but should use multinova to the same effect. The only bonus is the cop isn't stuck grabbing a normal taxpayer, instead he should be out grabbing the crack dealers on 17th or the car prowlings at the ctrains or the muggings of the elderly at shopping malls. I don't think it solves any real crime when you go down fight the demerits and pay the "tax" for speeding to the police.

Threatening to force you into court to prove factory tail lights are factory is waste of a taxpayers time and money and every other taxpayers money.

so i got a speeding ticket this morning, 9am. i was heading east on 17th ave towards elliston park, to walk my dog. he was sitting over the crest where i couldn't see him, but could see the 60km sign. i was still in the 50 when he got me doing 65. my fault, no big deal. he asks for my info. i don't have my license/wallet with me. i give him the regi and a faxed copy temp pink slip. told him that the car was new, and haven't got the pink one yet. gave him a copy of the bill of sale, which had my info on it.

he came back and issued me an $89 speeding fine and said that he would cut me a break on the license one. nice guy, for once. my point is, i was wearing a black hoodie, black "thrasher magazine" mesh cap, dark shades (covering up most of a shiner, never asked me to take them off either), driving a bmw with a pitbull in the back seat. hard to say what profile i fit into then, i guess.

my dog and i had a great walk, and saw that he had about 3 people pulled over on the way home.

well when you look at statistics more people are negatively effected per year by car accidents than crack dealers, I do see what you are saying but to say that cops should not make a presence on the streets I think is a little naive. Essentially if you were to lump the two into two separate entities the normal taxpayer would cause more death/suffering per year then the crack dealer.....

yea sure, but i bet it was an idle threat to end the argument, the only way police can do their job effectively is if they are respected as authorities, and not argued with even if they are wrong about something (that is to be taken up with courts). If the OP were to have said "yes officer I will remove them when I get home" bam, end of conversation, both sides win, the OP wouldn't have to further argue with the cop and the cop would get the satisfaction of thinking he won.

I have a huge amount of respect for police, they devote their life to cleaning up after everyone else's mess and only seem to get any attention when we are highlighting what they did wrong or how we are being treated unfairly.

you'll never win arguing with a cop over whats stock/OEM or not. just let him do what he wants to do and see him in court. you will NEVER win a roadside argument.....but you can make them look very bad in front of a judge

agreed, quite a few years ago when I used to go to those tim horton's "meets" I watched as a guy spent 20mins arguing with a cop in the TH parking lot over his stock sti exhaust that the cop thought was an oversized aftermarket exhaust, the kid was so adamant about proving the cop wrong that instead of taking the measly exhaust ticket quietly(or with the least resistance possible) and fighting it in court later he got the cop so pissed off that the cop finally went "alright you want to play this game kid" and proceeded to pick out and ticket the guy for every illegal thing he had equipped his car with, I can't remember what the final bill was but i remember that even if the guy had actually paid the exhaust ticket instead of fighting it, he would have been better off.

And this is the unfortunate part of the whole deal. To take an afternoon off of work to fight the ticket would cost more in the end, rather then to just pay the ticket. So in a sense, you would be getting punished for doing nothing wrong at all. What does the cop care..he's either getting overtime to go to court, if you choose to fight it, or you pay the ticket and it counts towards his quota for the week. The system should be set-up so that if the officer loses the court hearing, he has to pay a fine of like $50.00 for wasting the courts time and money. I would gaureentee you there would be a lot less BS tickets being handed out.

I am not sure if making them pay is the way to go, if I screw up at work I don't have to pay for it and I work with multi million dollar instruments. I do like the idea of accountability though as there can be a major abuse of power if the person is just having a bad day since they where fighting with the wife etc or if they are really just clueless but don't want to admit it. Either way they can make you guilt of something just by their own discretion with next to no recourse to them.

Have called them several times, one time involved a high homeless person beating a woman with a 10ft wooden umbrella pole, swung at a customer and swung at our door breaking the window. They said 'we will get there, but this isn't an emergency and that I should only call 911 during a real emergency'

I watched two men get their **** beaten with golf clubs across from the shop. The cops came 45min after I called them.

We had a meth addict do meth, in our washroom. Nothing.

Building manager was held at knife and needle point, called the cops as the bum was also trespassing. They came dressed down the manager and gave the bum a ride, to wherever he needed to go.

Thrown to the ground with an officers knee on my back, while they searched my bag for no reason. Clean cut kid with a camera bag, holding the fucking camera. Yeah, I am the criminal.

Had 4 bikes stolen personally, the shop has had more than I can count.

I have never had a single positive experience with an on-duty cop. We have a few that are customers and they are ok to deal with. They also expect some sort of discount majority of the time, because they are cops. I got in a pissing contest with one dick cop 3 summers ago, as he mocked me because I couldn't find his bike. Because his wife had already picked it up, and it was closed out of our system, she didn't tell him she picked it up. Calling me a stupid little kid. I then said, it might have been stolen and he would have to rely upon his own police work, to which I added, considering my past experiences with anything stolen, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I also asked him to write himself a ticket, after he told me he was riding pathways, as I remembered working on the bike and it didn't have a bell. Which is a $50 fine.

The Ego tripping cops are mainly a byproduct of being short staffed. Friend of ours used to do the Psych evals, and he said once the 'boom' started, CPS ignored every single one of his reports.

Bonfire, your post was by far the best in this thread. I fully agree with it all. F*** the police and all the **** they do. They use their "discretion" to judge whats an emergency and whats not, but when you take matters into your own hands to protect yourself, suddenly you're worse than the criminal.

I remember walking downtown one day, crossing at a cross walk with the overhead lights flashing, and stupid b*tch cop pulls an illegal u-turn through the intersection, and finally when she saw me, her cruiser was less than a foot away from my legs.

to be honest, I was praying she would hit me. I'm quite an athletic guy, would have done quite the flip off of the hood smashing her windshield, got a lawyer and paid off my house

Seriously guys they are out there doing a stressful and dangerous job, yes there are some meat heads that slip past recruiting but thats no reason to stereotype an entire police service over.
Being in the police recruiting process now I can tell you it is deffinatly not easy to become a police officer, and during this time I have met other applicants who I can honestly say I would feel sorry for the public if they were to be accepted...But guess what It happens.

on a funny note.. my brother a few weeks ago got a ticket for 40 over on john laurie for simply having fun and giving his passat a redline in 2nd or 3rd

anyways.. so he went downtown this morning to try and get the ticket reduced.. and the JP looked at the ticket and the cop didn't write down Calgary,AB on the ticket! just john laurie blvd.. so the ticket was completely thrown out ahahahhaha because the cop didn't fill it out properly

I agree, but unfortunately thats the way people see things. its the same as going to dealerships. a certain dealership can have 90% of the staff working there to be absolutely great people willing to do anything to help a customer out, but unfortunately that 10% that are dumbasses will ruin the name of the dealership. I cant say all cops are bad cause i've met some decent ones, but most are pretty pathetic with their power trips.
