Got pulled over for speeding, which was totally my bad, and got reemed out for having tinted tail lights on my MKIII GTI. I told him that on MKIII GTI's, the tails are tinted from the factory. He then began to argue with me saying that there not, and if he sees me again, and I haven't put in the "factory" non tinted tail lights, he would give me a ticket. I then told him, "look it....I was a VW mechanic, and that these are the factory tail lights. They came on every GTI from 93-99. They are not aftermarket." He still says no they are not. What a *ucking idiot!! It took everything in me not to get into a heated debate over the effin tails. So I just said OK, whatever. I now hate cops officially. It was obvious that he was a inbread hick, picking on the import guy.

Re: Dumb Effin Cops....
I think his point is he was more qualified to know if the tail lights where stock or not. Last time I checked we don't call the police to fix our cars nor do we call our mechanic to bounce the crack heads down the street. It would be funny if he gave you a ticket and you fought it, would be a waste of tax payers money but still funny.Name: Brent

Re: Dumb Effin Cops....
Its not all of the cops who have a superiority complex, that push there authority around like a shopping cart. But there are those out there, more so then not, that think they are always right. Like where was this guy in the 90's when these GTI's came out? There's like hundreds out and around Calgary and the surrounding areas right now.
And to add another note to there stupidity....I got pulled over on the Deerfoot highway in the 80 zone near Airdrie, in the fast lane. This dumb ass walks right out in front of me, in my lane at like the last possible second to stop me. The cars behind me were forced to brake hard and swerve around me, barely missing the back end of my car. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? This guy is begging to be slammed by a car, walking out on a HIGHWAY, in the FASTLANE. You are obviously stopping cars that are doing over 100kms and above, and this guy walks right out in front of the car. Good thinking Chachie!!TWO TON ENGINE LIFT/CRANE FOR RENT

As for the other guy with the tinted tails, most cops dont know what is a factory option on all cars on the road so it would be his discretion as he's the one with the power to write the ticket, you were prolly one out of 300 cars he sees in a given day without tinted tails so he doesn't know any better, it would be up to you to go to court with proper docs showing that the tails were tinted in that year and i pretty much guarantee the ticket would be thrown out.

Originally posted by Shoppingcart111 View PostAnd last time I was through there which was about two weeks ago, that entire stretch is a construction zone and there is no "fast lane" its 80 period through there so 1. you were in the wrong 2. i almost quarantee he didnt just jump out in front of you, cops arent that dumb so if you were doing the posted limit you probably more than likely had time to stop, as for the other people behind you well they weren't doing the limit either.
1. I knew I was in the wrong. Thats why I admitted it in the first place.
2. The officer did walk right out in front of me, causing me to brake hard enough for the ABS to kick on once or twice. And if I was doing the posted speed limit, I would have had time to stop, but Then why would he pull me over. Fact is, he is pulling over people for doing 100kms or more. Would you want to tempt fate and step in front of a car doing 100kms or more? Does that seem smart to you? Its not like he didn't know how fast I was travelling. He saw my speed on the radar gun.TWO TON ENGINE LIFT/CRANE FOR RENT

Re: Dumb Effin Cops....
Let it go.
But then again..... should have called his bluff because he would have been screwed. The way I look at it... If the cop wants to give you a ticket for OEM tail lights then under his judgment he is seeing it fit for the CPS to prove under statutory law that the vehicle comes with standard lights (under his non expert judgment) vs VW factory settings that comply with the road traffic act. That would have been a interesting court case with a giant egg on the officers face..... (waste of tax payers money, but could perhaps highlight issues within the CPS)Current: 2002 Zonda CRV

Re: Dumb Effin Cops....
well, i wouldn't get on the CPS' case for this one, first of all Cops NEED to profile or else they wouldn't be good at their job: ie; that sketchy guy walking down the street with a hood covering his head and checking over his shoulder if given the benefit of the doubt could be considered a perfectly law abiding citizen, but chances are he isn't. And that guy doing 100 in a well marked 80 zone with a clearly modified car could be a perfectly law abiding citizen other than breaking the speed limit, but chances are he isn't... get my drift? this is likely why you got in an argument with him over the tails, because he lumped you in with the other guys that spray their tails etc because you were giving him the impression you were one of "those guys".
Also if the COP did walk out if front of you and you were forced to slam on your brakes, then he was obviously making a point that, hey maybe checking your surroundings next time for a) speed signs, b) COP sitting in the open with a radar gun would be a good idea? chances are he could have jumped out of the way if he felt in danger, and likely your adrenalin kicked in so you are remembering things much more vividly than they actually happened (no offense, i've been there).
and i'm not trying to preach like i've never sped or broken the law or something like that, but when/if I do get caught I have no problem taking it as it is without question, because its not that I wasn't informed of the law, I knew exactly what I was doing so I have to pay the consequences without question.Last edited by J-hop; 04-17-2010, 06:23 PM.

Re: Dumb Effin Cops....
J-Hop, I don't agree with what you have posted in regards to you 'saying chances are' and police profiling. Thats not profiling, thats thats called stereotyping.
'sketchy guy walking down the street with a hood covering his head and checking over his shoulder ' Chances are he's not a law abiding citizen..? I don't agree. Profiling is determined by a number of factors. Now a profile on that person walking strangely may give suspicion & reason for a officer to perhaps stop that person and maybe search. He might have to target in some other factors before he does that. You can't right away assume that the person walking down the street is not law abiding. Ive walked home many a time with my hoodie over my head (it can get cold) and Ive looked over my should to see if there is a bus coming whilst I walk down to the next stop. What reason do the police have to stop me and how does that make me a non law abiding citizen?
Now if I have blood on my clothes, or a reported burglary/assault has taken place in the area. Then perhaps I can be stopped.
Why are the chances of a modified car vs a unmodified car more likely to be a non law abiding citizen? What is that based on? Do non law abiding citizens drive modified cars? Thats not based on profiling that based on stereotyping and ones prejudices.
I agree police need to profile. But what you have written in the first paragraph is a load of nonsense in relation to profiling.Current: 2002 Zonda CRV

Re: Dumb Effin Cops....
good points, but with all due respect I think when you boil down to it the line between stereotyping and profile is kinda hazy, but what i was trying to get at was ok; if you were to look at the rest of the vehicle and make a judgment call as to whether or not the rear tails were factory or a spray would you expect someone with a lowered car with front valance, joey'd style headlights swapped front end (not that the cop would notice), white bumper markers, badgeless grill etc be more likely to spray their tails, or would the person with the bone stock car with no apparent interest in modifying their car be more likely to have sprayed tails (btw yes I read your sig but im thinking on the bigger picture/probability side of things not individual )? On that same note, if someone modifies their car to be fast and/or look and sound fast is it really such a stretch to think maybe they drive it fast? or say with clothing, is the person wearing a shirt that says abercrombie or versace etc across it statistically more likely to be more concerned about self image then the person wearing a blank t-shirt? that may sound like stereotyping as obviously not every person is like that, but when you play probabilities not everyone can get the benefit of the doubt.
lol this thread has spawned very interesting debateLast edited by J-hop; 04-17-2010, 11:21 PM.

Re: Dumb Effin Cops....
I didn't object to the speeding ticket at all. Pretty hard to argue what the gun reads. however I did ask for a break. Ha..I took a shot
As far as the ticket for the tails goes, he never gave me one, but threatened me that If he saw me again, and I didn't take the tint off of the tail lights, he'd give me a ticket for it.TWO TON ENGINE LIFT/CRANE FOR RENT
